Caramel Coma

My phone rings, Allie apparently wants some FaceTime. I wipe my fingers on my napkin and swipe at my phone. "I thought you'd be praying to the porcelain god?"
She sticks her tongue out. "I haven't eaten anything since this morning, there's nothing in my stomach."
Luke makes a face. "Ugh. TMI Allie!" She raises her eyebrows at me, so I swing around and give her a view of my dinner companions.
"Hey Allie." Dean and Luke do a dumb little wave at my phone. Allie's eyes try to kill me, but I'm the only one who can tell. Smirking I right myself and she mimics cutting my throat.
It's my turn to stick my tongue out. "How about I call you later, babe?"
"Yeah, you do that. Although I might have fallen asleep. I'm tired as fuck." I bet, spending a day spewing your guts out will do that to you.
"I'll text you first. 'kay?"
"Okay, love ya!" She makes a kissy face and disconnects the call.
"Luke, you're cleaning up." Before he protests I raise my hand. "I called for pizza. Dean set the table. You clean. Or I'm not making The Sauce." The Sauce is my to die for fudge topping for ice cream. I only make it when mom and dad are out of town, because mom would freak at the amount I make and dad would just eat it all. Luke pouts, but keeps quiet. Dean looks intrigued, it's been a while since I made it. "You nerds can finish the pizza, I'm done." Luke flips me off, his mouth is full of pizza but I can clearly hear the "fuck you" he's thinking at me.
"You might be older, but I have way more class." I walk backwards out of the kitchen, double flipping them off.
"Man, I had almost forgotten about this side of Lily..." Dean's comment is nearly a whisper. And do I detect a smidgen of awe?
"Shut up." Luke's answer is more of a growl. I grin and bounce up the stairs.

At school I try to not make too much noise. Luke balances my decent chill with absolute zero, and enough detention to last us both a lifetime. Dean often, or should I say always, shares dentition with him. Mom and dad have sort of given up hope of getting Luke to start behaving at school, and since his grades aren't too bad, they kinda look between their fingers at his frequent late afternoons. Allie, of course, thinks their delinquent ways are intriguing. I don't mind her crushing on my twin, because I know that she knows him too well to actually do anything about it, and it kinda ruins the magic when you have memories of seeing someone buck naked and covered in finger paint. Dean though, I mean, aesthetically I can see where she's coming from, but does she not know him? He's... Dean! Anyway, Allie's been my bff since before we could talk. I honestly don't know what I'd do without her.

"u awake babes?" There's no answer, even though we spoke not too long ago. I wait a full 15 minutes before I send her a kissy face. "talk tmrw"
I really hope this is one of those 24h stomach bugs, because then she might be able to come by on Sunday. I really don't know if I'll survive a whole weekend with Dumb and Dumber. Especially not with them hogging the tv. Maybe I can lure them out of the house and to some party? I go scrolling through social media. I check with Lola to see if anything is happening tonight, but she's taking her girlfriend to the movies. Alfred is asking if anyone wants to hang out, but I don't really feel like asking him over, only to argue about Lord of the Rings. Shannon and Louise are stalking their most recent crush and even though it seems like fun to tag along, I'm too lazy to actually leave the house myself.

Some time later I resurface from Pinterest and YouTube, party search completely forgot. I saw this cooking video on how to make a perfect Pavlova and realised I had yet to make The Sauce. I can almost feel the sugary goodness ignite every hyper nerve-ending in my body. Warm and drizzled over ice cream it becomes my favourite drug.

Down in the living room they've switched to Winter, a military style FPS. It looks like they're doing the Siberian campaign, which is one of my favourites because you have to sneak through a forest undetected, and Luke is shit at sneaking in games and I can rag on him for it. He usually rags on me for being less proficient at sniper rifles, but I'm so practicing with those to up him. It'll be so sweet, the day I take every shot and he's going to sit there with his mouth hanging open.
"You guys still want ice cream, right?" It's nearly 11 pm, but it's Friday night and that's made for sugar comas. I get all the ingredients out and start making The Sauce. They haven't said anything, but I don't care. Even if they don't want any, I'm so having a big bowl.
"Man! You're supposed to stab them in the neck! Not fucking sniper them!" Dean's voice is beyond annoyed.
"Shut up. It could have worked." Luke's all whiny.
"When has it ever worked? When? We've played this so many times and when has it ever worked?"

I don't hear Luke's reply because his phone is in the kitchen and starts to vibrate itself off the counter. I check the caller ID and almost vomit in my mouth a little.
"Dude! Your stalker is calling!"
There's rustling from the living room, and Luke launches himself into the kitchen and manages to answer his phone before it cuts to voicemail. "Yeah?" He pretends to be all cool, but flips me off as I pretend to vomit into the saucepan. "Yeah. No. Uhm, yeah, sure. Right." The call ends and I raise an eyebrow at him. "Krista is on her way home and wanted to stop by."
"Krista's coming over?" Dean has followed Luke into the kitchen and his voice cracks a little at the end. "Alone?" Luke shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't know. They're like attached at the hip..."

'They' are Krista and Crystal, and they are a year younger and annoying af. Krista lives on our street and has had a crush on Luke for maybe a year, and she's so freaking obvious about it and even though he's told me he doesn't like her, he lets her come around. Dean runs his hands through his hair, a look of near panic on his face. Intriguing...
"Have I missed something?" I look between Dean and Luke. Luke shrugs his shoulders again. "What?"
"I need like the biggest favour from you." Dean places himself right in front of me with this manic look in his eyes.
I feel myself backing into the stove. "Dude, you're kinda scaring me here..."
His laugh is mirthless. "I'm fucking out of options here. I only have crazy, scary ideas left." When Luke just shakes his head, Dean turns to him with annoyance on his face. "Dude, you got the least crazy one."
"Wait, wait, wait... " I raise my hands, gesturing at the boys to hear me out. "Are you saying.... are you actually saying that Crystal has the hots for you?" It's a struggle to say it with a straight face.
Luke catches the amusement in my eyes and smirks. "Oh, I'd say... she's totally smittened with our boi here."
"Oh. My. God." I bite my lip to not burst out laughing. Dean glares at us. "I thought Krista had bad taste, but Crystal must be fucking insane!"
Luke punches my shoulder. "Don't be a bitch!"
I flick his ear. "Fuck you." I turn to stir The Sauce, it's almost ready to eat. Dean is still standing too close, but I've practiced ignoring him for years. The doorbell rings and Luke goes to let the crazies in.
