By the time Luke's done with his chores, we're on the fifth attempt with the boss. He sits in his favourite chair and watches us fail yet again. "You guys were close."
"I know!" My growled answer has him and Dean share a look and I want to punch someone. "You know what. I'm going to fucking bullrush it when it's down to the last bit of health. That's like the only thing we haven't tried."
Dean gestures at the tv with his controller. "Be my guest. When I fought this thing I killed it in two tries."
"Yeah, well. We're playing nightmare."
His chuckle is more of a cough. "I'm sorry what now?"
"Nightmare mode. Because I like to suffer."
"Because you're crazy." Dean and Luke both mumble under their breath. I decide to ignore them. They're boys, they don't know pain."YES!!!" Bull-rushing seems to have been the right tactic. The giant robot goes down in a series of explosions and a cut scene plays. I don't know what to do with these happy feelings. I jump up and do this little happy dance. "Yes, yes, motherfucker, yes!" Luke and Dean laugh at me, but I don't care.
"Do you want to continue? It's a good place to stop." Dean nods at the screen.
"Yeah, I can't concentrate for anything. Man, that boss nearly killed me."
Luke shakes his head. "You're so fucking dramatic."
I stick my tongue out. "Says the guy who cried at the end of Monster Moon."
"It's a tragic ending though." I spin around to face Dean.
"Oh, come on!" He shrugs his shoulders. I drop the controller on the sofa. "Well, you guys can sit here and cry about Monster Moon, I'm going to go buy a HUGE milkshake. To celebrate." That has them perking up.
"You'd probably want to change trousers though." Luke snickers. "There's a hole on the bum."I feel my face burning as I rush up the stairs to check the damage and change into something else. In the end I decide to keep Dean's t-shirt on. I scrunch it up and tie it with a hair tie, making it a cute crop top. Paired with my most distressed boyfriend jeans and hightops I look super cute. I snap Allie a mirror selfie. I post another version for my stories. Shoving my license, phone and credit card into my pockets I bounce down the stairs. "Hey losers! Are you coming?" Both of them are in the kitchen looking at their phones. I go to grab the keys from the hook by the door, but they're not there.
"I'm driving." Luke spins the keys on his finger. "And Dean's called shotgun."
"You guys suck." I flick my hair and leave the door open behind me. I hear them chuckling and I know I can't look back, or I'll start laughing too. Luke won't unlock the doors until he's right at the driver's side, so I stand there by the passenger side backdoor. I know he wants me to feel dumb, but I don't feel nothing but cute. So ha! on him. It is kinda cold though. I buckle up and wrap my arms around me."You wanna go through the drive-in or do we go inside?" Luke looks at me through the rearview mirror.
"I mean, I guess I could eat something more than just the milkshake."
"Food is always a good idea. I say we go inside." Dean flips the visor down and quickly checks himself out.
"You're very pretty Dean, don't worry about it."
He turns around at my sarcastic comment. "Says the girl who's only dating me because of my looks."
"Yeah. If I wanted brains, I would have gone looking elsewhere." He flips me off before turning around again.
"Is this going to be a thing now?" Luke sighs and puts the car in park.
"Only in private. In public it's going to be all cute. Right Lily?" Dean looks mighty smug.
"Oh, I don't know about that. It's all about sex, isn't it? I'm thinking ass grabbing and bicep squeezing."
Luke cringes in the front seat. "Please don't."
Dean just shakes his head at me. "Don't worry man, that's so not her style in public." He shoves Luke's shoulder playfully. "You know what a goody two shoes she is at school." I hate that he's right. I'll never pull off Lewd Lily in public.
"Maybe I'm working on a new image?" With that I leave the car.George is working the register and I immediately lose all of my bravado. I had a small crush on him a couple of years ago and he found out and it just got all weird. A lot of it was Allie wanting us to go on a date, and him not really being interested at all.
Once she had this idea of a group date thing. I had a bad feeling and asked Luke to tag along, and he brought Dean and Will. Allie cancelled last minute, leaving me to hang out with four guys. She hadn't invited anyone except George and if I hadn't thought of asking Luke, it would have been a super awkward evening. Instead we went bowling and I had a great time laughing at Dean for being shit at the game. Will and George had chatted up two girls a few lanes over and the night ended with us parting ways; they went on dates and we went home to watch a film. Allie was super annoyed at how the evening had played out, but she was even more annoyed at George for ignoring me for some random girl."Welcome to Star Burger. May I take your order?" George looks bored and will hardly acknowledge that we kinda know each other.
"Can I have the chicken special, but a Salty Caramel Megashake instead of soda, please." George presses the buttons on the register without enthusiasm. "Anyth..."
"Yo, George!" His eyes move from the register to the door and a huge grin breaks out on his face. Luke elbows his way past me and does this elaborate handshake with George. "What's up man?"
"Nothing much dude, working, you know." He finishes taking my order and the blank face he had when I ordered slides back into place. "That'll be..."
"Nah man, I'm paying." Dean appears next to me, and I have to grind my teeth to not sucker punch him when his arm sneaks around my waist. George's eyes flicker down to Dean's arm and a crooked smirk flashes. He raises his eyebrow at Dean, a sort of 'nice job man' and if Dean hadn't squeezed me a little I would have thrown something at George.
"Sure thing, man."
Dean and Luke order, but I don't hear what they're saying, I'm too busy being aware that even though Dean has let me go, he's staying very close to me. And what will happen when George tells his friends? And what will happen when any other friends from school find out? Do I really want to do this? And don't they all already know from seeing Dean's stories? Or do they think we just hooked up? And what will it mean for others to think we're an item? Will they all treat me differently?
