Sunday? What? Mum's text wakes me up at 11am.
"We're getting on the plane and should be home by 5. Picking up Chinese on the way, set the table. xx" Crawling out of bed, I drag myself over to Luke's room and throw my dead tired body on his bed. If I'm awake, he has to be too.
There's a moan and shuffling under the covers. "Fuck's sake... go away!" He tries kicking me, but I've trapped his feet under me and all he succeeds in doing is jostling me some.
"No." I flop over on my back. "Mum texted." I almost feel him waking up more. "They're here at like 5."
Luke reaches for his phone and moans. "That's hours away! Why'd you have to wake me now?"
"M'yeah... go away." Dean dares to mumble from his mattress on the floor. I decide I need to annoy him some because of it. Without skill I slide off the bed and aim for Dean's half-sleeping form on the floor. "Oof!" He's more successful in wriggling out from underneath me. His hair is all sleep tousled, and with his eyes half closed he looks not too bad. "If you wanted to snuggle, all you had to do was to ask." With surprising swiftness he has me under the blanket, with my head on his shoulder, and I would like to say it's awful, but it's nice and warm and I'm very sleepy.
A pillow hits me right on the head. "It's 12.30, we need to make sure things are perfect." Luke sounds less than thrilled. I snuggle closer to the warm body next to me. "Come on Lily! Get off the floor and help me with this shit!" The floor? I crack my eyes open and heat floods my body when I realise who's neck I'm burying my face into.
"Oh my god, chill!" I pull out of Dean's arms and glare at my brother with as much disinterested annoyance I can muster. "Where's the fire?" Without much as a glance at the boy I just snuggled with, I get up and stomp to my room. I wouldn't say I slam my door, but I shut it forcefully. Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath. I have to forget how nice it was to be in his arms. "It's like any other boy. He's replaceable. It's just for a week. Just for school. No more sleeping in anyone's bed." Yeah. Good talk. When I pull the t-shirt over my head I pretend I don't sniff it.
Gathering all my clothes and sorting them into a laundry pile and a wardrobe pile has my room looking a bit more clean. Luke did a shoddy job with the hoovering, but unless mum checks too closely I think we'll get away with it.
Luke and Dean are down in the living room, supposedly getting Dean's shit in order to be picked up. But I'm not sure "getting in order" means the same thing they think. At the moment they're playing DemonCore, shouting insults at each other and the other players. Shaking my head I go start the washing machine, at least one of us is "making sure things are perfect".
There's just enough sugary cereal for one, and since the boys have decided to skip breakfast, I pour it all in a bowl and drown it in milk. Then I decide the boys need an audience, and I'm all done with my cleaning anyway.
"Lily! Make us a sandwich." Luke's eyes never leave the screen.
"No." I sit down on the armrest and watch them shoot and explode cartoons on the screen.
Luke glances at my bowl. "Give me a spoonful of that then."
"No." My mouth is full of cereal and it comes out more like "go".
"Lilyyyyy..." With a pout Luke tosses himself back on the sofa and sulkily clicks the buttons of the controller.
"But I'll let bae have some..." I lean closer to Dean and hold the bowl out to him.
He looks at me quickly before focusing on the game again. "Ehm, I can't eat that now."
"Don't worry babe, I'll feed you." I lift the spoon and hold it out to him. "Open vide, sweetie." A confused Dean opens his mouth and I feed him a spoon of sugary cereal.
"Oh, for fuck's sake!" Luke pretends to gag and leaves the game. "We should pack."
"You pack. We're being busy being cute."
"No. You're being cringey and you need to stop!"
"You're just jealous!"
"Am not!" Luke stands and tosses the controller on the sofa.
"Are too!" I stand up, prepared to take him on.
"You're such a loser bitch! He's my REAL friend and your FAKE boyfriend!"
"Get over here and say that to my face!"
Luke stands between us. He carefully takes the half full bowl of cereal from my hands and gives me a look that says chill, before turning to Luke. "If you disconnect everything, I'll call my dad." He turns to me again, shoves two spoons of cereal into his mouth before handing me the bowl back. "Thanks."
"Don't talk with your mouth full." With that, I leave them to their business and go finish my cereal in the kitchen.
I find leftover Sauce in the fridge and since Luke is my least favourite brother right now, I decide to eat it all. It's really too much to eat it all, super sweet and gooey, but I power through because reasons. Dean finds me, sitting on the counter, scraping the last of The Sauce off the sides of the saucepan.
"Dad's here."
"M'kay." I talk around the spoon.
"Did you eat it all?"
I check the saucepan. "Yeah. Should I have saved some for you?"
"Nah, it's cool." He strides up to me, grabs my face in his hands and gives me a thorough kiss. Absolutely toe curling, if I allowed myself to be affected by anything this boy does. He keeps his hands cupping my face and moves back just enough to look into my eyes. "I'll come pick you up before school tomorrow."
Fighting my way through the haze caused by his kiss, I scrunch my eyebrows and shake free from his hands. "I'm going with Luke."
"How would it look if I arrived to school without my girlfriend?"
"Like I have a mind of my own?"
"But it wouldn't be... cute."
"Fucking Luke..." I place the saucepan beside me and grab Dean by the shirt. "You better get me out of wardrobe week, or you'll be right here beside me, sorting through every last one of them!"
"Obviously. And I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"You are an idiot."
"But I'm your idiot."
Why does he have to make me laugh? "Oh my god, go home!" I stay in the kitchen as Luke tells his friend goodbye, washing the saucepan and thus ridding us of The Sauce evidence.
"Wanna continue with DU2?" Luke shouts at me from the living room.
"YES!" I dry the saucepan and put it back in the cupboard. Time to finish Dark Universe 2 and end this very weird weekend.
