He woke up, his throat was burning and his leg was aching, he rolled to his side and coughed up a few lung fulls of water. When he tried moving he stopped immediately after pain started shooting up his leg, he looked at it and saw that it was bent to the side, a way that it shouldn't be bent. He grunted as he tried to scoot back and away from the freezing cold water he'd washed up from.
"Dammit," he grumbled as he examined his leg some more. He looked around and found a long straight stick, he grabbed it and took off his belt. After wrapping it around his thigh he fastened the stick tightly next to his leg and tore off one of his sleeves to secure the other end of the stick.
"Tony is going to kill me," steve muttered and looked around to try and figure out where he was. He checked himself out for any injuries and lost count with all of his contusions all over his body. He shifted over a bit and winced when his side spiked up in pain. "Yep, those are broken" he winced and felt the back of his head. As he pulled his hand away he noticed it was covered it blood, "perfect"
He scanned around him and found another long stick he could use to get up. After standing up painfully slow, dizziness hit him like a bullet and started falling back when he hit something large behind him, he turned around and it was a wild horse.
He didn't know if it was real, maybe he was hallucinating but when it bent down in front of him all he could think to do was lay down across its back and go wherever it takes him.
He had no idea how long he was out but he woke up when he was jostled as this horse he was on stealthily walked over some rocks. "What the-" he looked around and almost fell off while doing so. So he repositioned himself by throwing his other leg over its back and looking around before laying back down.
All he saw was trees and more trees. He had no idea where he was, no idea where he was going, but he did know he wouldn't be able to get anywhere else without this horse.
Everything hurt, he tried repositioning but the most comfortable position still left him in an incredible amount of pain. So, he passed out again.
He woke up again after hitting the ground from the horses back. "Hey," he grumbled. It just laid down. It was dark now and colder than it was earlier.
Steve shivered and crawled over to the other side of the horse. "I don't know where you came from, but thanks bud." He patted its side and curled up next to it, trying to get as warm as possible.
Of course this was all happening at the beginning of shields search for him. Just as all tony could think about was finding him, all steve could think about was finding his way back to tony.
He wanted to be huddled up next to tony in their bed again, because it was so so cold and sleeping next to tony in his arms was and always has been his favourite place.
He couldn't wait to get back all he could do was hope they'd find him soon.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when a wolf howled in the distance. The horse stood up quickly and before she could take off steve hopped onto her back and clung onto her mane.
He looked behind them and saw a pack of wolves running towards them quickly. "Oh shi—go!" He sat up straighter and leaned forward to get better balance.
They caught up quickly which was alarming, so steve grabbed the stick he'd been dragging along to walk and walked one of them away from him but another came up on the other side and clenched down on his broken leg.
He screamed as he was dragged off of the horse and continued trying to fight them all off. Another one but down on his shoulder and started yanking him around.
Luckily the horse came back and started stomping around and kicked the wolves to get them away, and with that help steve managed to sit back up and hit some more with his stick.
Another jumped at him but his quick swing caught it in its side. Soon enough they were scared away and trotted away from them.
He collapsed on his back to catch his breath and the snow felt good on his Fresh wounds. "This really sucks huh?" He looked at the horse standing by his side and she ducked her head down to nudge him with her nose. "You wanna go?" She neighed and he nodded in return. "I'm going crazy aren't I?" He looked at the starry sky, "I'm talking to a horse" he looked at her and patted her head.
He slowly got back to his feet without putting too much weight on his broken leg. The horse leaned down so that he could get up on her back and they were off.
"I am not enjoying this" he grumbled and thought of the time he set up dinner on the roof of the tower. Tony took some hard hits on the mission they were on and they were both tired afterwards.
So he ordered some food from tonys shawarma place and set it all up under the stars. He carried him to the roof and poured him a glass of wine to go with their takeout.
Tears came to his eyes, thinking of how every part of him just glowed under the moonlight and brightened his life. All he wanted was to go home and lay in his arms.
