That smell

Sakura's 18th birthday had finally arrived, but instead of excitement, she felt a sense of dread. Today, her status would be officially verified, and she was certain she'd be classified as a Beta—nothing extraordinary, just average. She glanced at her phone before dragging herself out of bed to shower. The whole system felt archaic to her, a reminder that despite all their advancements, they were still animals at the core, bound by these primal classifications.

As she made her way to the Hokage's office, each step felt heavier than the last. She could feel the eyes on her, villagers wishing her a happy birthday, but all she wanted was to disappear. At the reception, she gave her name and took a seat, noticing Genma giving her an odd look from across the room. She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.

When her name was called, Sakura walked into the Hokage's quarters. Kakashi—no, Hokage Kakashi—was sitting behind his desk, deep in conversation with Asuma. As soon as she entered, the conversation ceased, and Kakashi's attention shifted entirely to her. She watched as he sharply inhaled, his expression changing as he caught her scent.

Kakashi's eyes widened slightly, though he quickly composed himself. "Well, hello, Sakura," he greeted her, his voice warm, though there was an edge to it she couldn't quite place. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, feeling suddenly self-conscious under his gaze. "What's my status, Hokage Kakashi?" she asked, her voice soft, almost embarrassed.

He glanced down at the paperwork, the boxes on the form still empty, though he already knew the answer. She was an Omega, no doubt about it, but the pull to confirm it up close was too strong to ignore. Rising from his chair, he walked towards her, the air between them charged with tension.

Sakura stood tall as Kakashi approached, his presence overwhelming. When his hand gently tilted her head, moving her hair aside, she felt her heart race. His scent hit her as his nose brushed against her neck, sending a shiver down her spine. She inhaled deeply, and the intoxicating mix of his scent filled her senses, making her stomach twist with unfamiliar excitement. But then, he stepped back abruptly, leaving her wide-eyed and confused.

Kakashi had to force himself to step away, her scent almost overpowering. She was the strongest-smelling Omega he had ever encountered, and this was only her first day—her heat hadn't even started yet. "Well, Sakura, it turns out you're an Omega," he said, his voice steady, though he was barely holding his composure.

Sakura looked at him, startled. "You have to be kidding," she murmured.

"There's no doubt about it," Kakashi replied, his tone serious. "In fact, you have the strongest scent I've ever come across. So please, be careful." With that, she left the office, her mind swirling. As soon as she was gone, Genma entered, Asuma giving Kakashi a skeptical look.

"You didn't even need to evaluate her, Kakashi. We could all smell it," Asuma remarked.

Kakashi muttered, "Did you really think I'd pass up the opportunity?" He returned to his paperwork, though his thoughts were still on Sakura. His former student, now revealed to be the strongest Omega in decades—and it had to be her.
