"Bridget!" Laura screamed. She turned to glare at Cora. "What have you done?!"
Cora smiled, her brown eyes behind her fuchsia glasses glinting menacingly. "Nothing at all dearies."
Bridget's bright blue eyes were wide with horror, the only part of her face that was visible. She looked to Laura with horrified eyes.
Laura rushed to Bridget's side and tried untying her. But Bridget tugged against her, trying to wriggle free of Laura's grip.
Bridget's eyes darted to Laura, then to the door, then to a dark corner in the room, where black drapes hung. Her eyes repeated this motion. Laura, door, corner. Laura, door, corner. It was creepy.
"I think she's trying to tell us something." This was the first time Lily had spoken ever since they entered this strange place.
Laura gritted her teeth. "Stop. Pulling." She tried to untangle the rope that was binding Bridget's arms.
Bridget struggled harder, trying to push Laura away.
Lily came to Laura's side. Together, they untied Bridget's arms.
The moment Bridget's arms were free, she pushed Lily and Laura to the ground.
Thud. They landed on the ground with a painful bump.
Lily rubbed her bottom. "What was that for?!"
Bridget's eyes repeated its frantic motion. Laura, door, corner. Laura, door, corner.
Laura was getting frustrated.
She got up and went to Bridget's side. In a flash, she ripped off Bridget's gag.
Instantly, Bridget screamed, "Get out of here!!".
Laura was confused. "What?".
"Get out of here!" Bridget repeated. "She knows you're here."
Lily came to Laura's side. "Who?"
Bridget's eyes darted to the dark corner again, as if she was scared to say who.
"Don't worry Bridget," said Laura, tugging Bridget to her feet."We won't leave without you." Laura said standing up
"Where do you think you're going?".
Laura turned around. Standing behind her, was no other than....
Principal Carine.
"Welcome to my home, little birdies," Principal Carine said, gesturing to her creepy surroundings. "I see you have found your little fairy friend."
The wicked woman grabbed Bridget and sat her on the chair. Bridget tried to stand up with all her might.
She took out a withered old stick from her pocket and flicked it at Bridget lazily. Bridget was stuck to the chair!
She then shouted, "Cora! It is time."
Cora nodded, then calmly walked to the dark corner covered in drapes. She gave the principal a little nod.
"Behold, little birdies! My best invention yet!" Principal Carine opened her arms wide, as if expecting applause.
None came. All that came was Laura's voice shouting hastily at Miss Carine.
"Will you stop calling us 'little birdies'. And let Bridget go!!" Laura shouted, as she picked up a bottle and flung it at the Principal.
But Miss Carine just ignored Laura as she threw the bottle that Laura had flung at her into the bin.
