Grian's pov
"Grian?" His mother whispered as she was to weak to talk properly.
"Yes Mama?" Grian replied, tears forming in his eyes and trickling down his check as he tried to stay strong.
"I have something for you.." she pulled out from a side table draw a small box and handed it to her son. Inside was a ruby amulet in the shape of a tear drop, connected to a silver chain.
" Inside the ruby is a few strands of my hair so a piece of me will always be with you." She smiled as the 20 year old began to cry harder.
"Mama don't say such things! Your going to get better....you have too.." Tears we're now streaming down his face, he made no effort to stop. His mother took his hand in her own and smiled at him.
" You and I both know that that won't happen. However, I would like you to keep a few things in mind. One, no matter where you are or what your doing, even though you can't see me, I'll be there. Two, I don't want you to be sad at my death, don't cry because I'm gone, smile and laugh because I lived. I got to see a handsome young boy turn into the wonderful man he his. I want you to help your father through this and please promise me one more thing?"
"Anything"
" Never stop smiling, I love you Grian, more than you could ever know." In that moment her eyes went dull and the heart monitor made a loud beeping noise to indicate her heart stopping. Grian broke down in tears, sobbing at his mothers side and clutching onto the amulet. His farther rushed in and started to cry as well although he didn't fully break down. He didn't want Grian to see him like that. A nurse came in and covered the body as the two men hugged and cried into each other for what felt like an eternity.

The ride home was nothing special. The two sat in silence, an occasional sob coming from Grian. Their world had been turned upside down in a matter of minutes.

Grian wanted to stay strong for his mother and keep the promise he made to her. Through her funeral he made sure to never stop smiling, even though his farther scolded him for it.

Grian never took the necklace off, not in the bath, not in bed, nowhere and no time did he take it off. He may get teased for the necklace at school but he knew his mother would stay true to her word and would stay with him until the day he died.
3 years later
It was graduation and everyone was finding out what server they would be going to. Grian looked down at his piece of paper and in cursive handwriting was the word 'Hermitcraft'. It said he was invited by a young man named Mumbo Jumbo who was two years older than him. Grian couldn't wait to go to his new server and hoped his mother would still be with him.
