White walls flashed my periferral vision as I looked around for Dike's pale face. There was no sign of my gaurdian. How did I get here? The voice in my head echoed and the question rung over and over again as if the question could potentially get clearer, but it wasn't becoming any clearer. It became blurry to me. Why am I here? The question merged my body into a different mood. Swapping from bein confused and scared to determined and fierce wasn't something I was capable of doing.

"You okay Evelyn?" I turned to find the source of the voice, hoping it was Vandike. It wasn't. The nurse looked at me in a worry and felt the tempurature of my forhead. Her hands were cold but firm. They weren't anything like Mersus' dead body. Her plump figure showed generosity and her hair orangish-red, with a touch of frizzyness to show her feminitity.

"Yeah..I'm fine." I looked around again, my body weak from the tiresome hours. "Do you happen to know where Vandike is?"

She looked at my worry-some eyes and looked back at the door, "he's outside. He looked calm when he brought you in. Wasn't anything i expected." I watched as she swallowed and slowly got up. She opened the door and invited him to come in. He slipped in as she slipped out into the airy hall.

His face was calm. I wasn't surprised. It made me know there wasn't anything to fear because he wasn't in a worried mood. His presence reminded me of a dog. Not that companionship of a loyal creature was bad but it made me more assuring that I was going to be alright.

"How's your head?" He chuckled as he moved his hair out of the way with a tilt to his head.

"My head?" I felt the wraps around it. I felt every wrap and tears swelled in my eyes, "what happened?" My voice became empty and my fingers trembled as I felt each wrap over and over again.

"You fell on the concrete at school and had a concussion. You've been in the hostpital for only three hours. The nurses tried their best to sedate you but you kept waking up." He looked at the door and continued, "you kept saying, 'let them grow, let them swell' and you just kept..repeating it like it was some voodoo ritual. But I know what you mean...your wings were speaking for you."

"My wings?" I leaned a hand over my shoulder to feel what was he really talking about. Feathers stuck out of my back as I felt the edgyness of them. I felt the other side of my shoulder. It was the same thing: edgy and feathery.

"Yeah...they will grow soon. They're growing faster than I thought actually." He looked at me as I glanced up at him, "they actually can't detect your wings Evelyn. Only angels, demons, and supernaturals can see the wings."

I looked around and looked at Dike, his eyes starring back at me in dangerous wonder. I looked away. I swear...he can sense my feelings.

"I can.." He blurted out and chuckled.

I looked at him again and bursted out laughing, "haha! Since when did you read minds?"

"Well you consider yourself an angel now..we can read eachothers thoughs if were in the same room." He chuckled alittle and swayed my bangs out of my face.

He looks so warm right now. That smile, so contageous and simple. If he could be like this forever...I think I could fall in love.

"Is that so?" He laughed and gingerly touched my chin as he looked at me in silence again.

"Well just because my thoughts are saying those things..does not mean I am gonna say those things out loud Dike." I found it hard to talk with the feverish giggle I had drawn out of my shy smile.

"Smooth recovery." He mocked me and we both laughed.

The room fell silent again. It was a good silence though. One that we could have and still be laughing afterwards. Those kind of silent moments kind of make it worth while to wait for another conversation to start up.
