JAIME
Jaime Lannister was, for the most part, a wholly selfish person. Most honorable things he had done in his life had selfish intent. The reason he joined the Kingsguard was so he could selfishly continue an incestuous relationship with his sister when their father was the Hand of the King. Come to think of it, most selfish acts were for Cersei, including the latest one.
Bran Stark, the second youngest son of Lord Eddard and Lady Catelyn Stark, was the unfortunate victim. While climbing a broken tower, he had seen something he should not have and Jaime, eager to keep it a secret, pushed the boy from the tower.
"The things I do for love," were the words he had spoken and the words that had echoed in his skull since he had pushed the child. It was as if a bard's song was playing in his mind over and over again and he could not stop it.
He had been sitting in the empty feasting hall enjoying his breakfast alongside Cersei and her children, Joffrey excluded. Their children, not that anyone else alive knew that.
It was rather quiet, nobody having much to speak about other than Bran's fall and the Lannister twins made it clear they did not want to discuss it.
Tyrion waltzed into the hall after what Jaime assumed to have been a rough night of drinking since last he saw of his little brother, he was passed out in the dog pen.
"Bread," Tyrion requested from a servant. "And two of those little fish. And a mug of dark beer to wash it down."
He approached the table, Jaime noticing his sister's bothered expression.
"And bacon burnt back," he added, picking up Tommen so he could move him a little to the side to sit down. Tommen was giggling, Cersei only mildly infuriated at how well her children treated the brother she despised.
"Little brother," Jaime greeted.
"Beloved siblings," Tyrion greeted, not failing to notice that Cersei was trying her best to fake a smile.
Tyrion placed a book on the table, got himself situated in his seat, and began filling his plate with foodstuffs.
"Is Bran going to die?" the sweet Princess Myrcella asked.
"Apparently not," Tyrion answered, the princess smiling in relief.
"What do you mean?" Cersei asked.
"The Maester says the boy may live," he informed, taking a drink and then eating some bacon.
"It's no mercy, letting a child linger in such pain," she mused.
"Only the Gods know for certain," he replied. "All the rest of us can do is pray."
He noticed her sullen expression.
"The charms of the North seem entirely lost on you."
"I still can't believe you're going," Cersei said, unsure why her brother would go to Castle Black. "It's ridiculous, even for you."
"Where's your sense of wonder? The greatest structure ever built, the intrepid men of the Night's Watch, the wintry abode of the White Walkers."
"Tell me you're not thinking of taking the black," said Jaime.
"And go celibate? The whores would go begging from Dorne to Casterly Rock. No, I just want to stand on top of the Wall and piss off the edge of the world."
Tommen and Myrcella giggled.
"The children don't need to hear your filth," Cersei said in mild disgust before her gaze moved behind Tyrion.
