Geralt and I sat in the corner of the tavern, cards sat in front of us. "Why don't I remember him?" I asked.
"Your memory has been wiped just like mine," he said. "We just have to be careful and if you stay with me I'll protect you."
"I don't wander from your side anyway," I reminded him. He huffed a laugh and placed another card down that was higher than mine. "You cheat!"
"I did not," he said. Our game was suddenly interrupted by the door swinging open, our gaze locked onto the figure.
"That's him," I said looking away at the cards.
"I see," he replied. "I hate to be the one to tell you but he's coming over here."
"Great," I sighed and tried to shrink into the shadows.
"Ar, Shadow, my darling there you are," he said.
"Leave," I warned, my eyes glowing.
"No," he said pulling up a chair behind him and sat at the table with us. I looked at Geralt and sighed.
"Can you go away?" I asked.
"No, my darling I wish to spend some time with you, it's been too long," he said and tried to rest his hands on mine, but I pulled them away before he could touch me.
"The lady is obviously uncomfortable, I suggest you leave," Geralt said.
"Stay out of this Witcher scum, this is none of the business you've already stolen her from me," he said. Geralt chuckled and took a sip of his drink. "Something funny?"
"Yes, she doesn't know you," he said and slammed down his mug on the table, "therefore I haven't stolen anything."
"You Witchers are always wrong," he said.
"I don't think so," I replied reaching for the knife on my thigh, "I suggest you leave before we make you."
"You never did scare my Shadow, this is not you. You're too sweet for this, you're only acting this way because he moulded you this way," he said and pointed at Geralt.
"I don't think so," I said. He gripped my wrist and held it firmly.
"My darling please drop this charade," he said, his eyes growing wide like puppies.
"You're starting to annoy me, please leave," Geralt asked calmly.
"If I leave, so does she," he said. I looked at Geralt, he got up and grabbed him by his arm and tried to drag him out. "Let go of me you filthy witcher," he tried to shrug him off but he failed as he punched Geralt, he let go of his arm. I too raced up but Geralt pushed me back and returned the punch winding him in, he bent over wheezing, as all air escaped his lungs.
"We warned you," I said, looking over Geralt's shoulder.
"You will just let him throw me out as if I am nothing?" he asked looking at me with sad eyes, and a hurt expression as blood seeped from his nose.
"Yes," I said.
"Shadow, please," he begged and gripped my legs.
"No," I said and kicked him away, like a hurt dog he crawled out of the tavern on his knees, gave me one last look and disappeared.
