I'm woken up by my mom rushing to get my brothers ready for school.
"Mom I don't wanna go to school!" complains Miles.
"I can't wait to go to school. I want to meet new people," Matthew exclaims eagerly.
"Well, the bus is coming soon so come over here so I can brush your hair!"
I wake up and yawn. It's morning already? I stretch then get up from my bed. I hurry to get ready as my mom yells for me to wake up.
"I'm up! I'm up," I yell back as I tug on a fitted rainbow striped shirt to go with my blue mom jeans. When I'm done putting my clothes on, I go to wash up in the bathroom.
I hurriedly brush my teeth and cleanse my face. I apply mascara and rub on some lip gloss. I take out the twists in my hair from the night before and force my hair into a messy bun. I check myself out in the mirror. I look pretty cute, I guess.
Wait, my phone. Where's my phone?
"The bus is here! Mal, get your butt down here," my mom yells from the stairs. I curse and snatch my phone from the dresser, along with my ear buds. I grab my black doc martens and shove them on.
I still feel like I'm forgetting something. I pause and try to remember.
"Mal!"
I groan. Whatever. I gotta go. I dash down the stairs, past my mom and out the front door.
I could tell Matthew was trying to stall for me because he was walking super slow up the steps of the bus.
I smile and thank him once we sit down.

I look down at my schedule and back up again. Where is Mr. Jansen's room? The halls are crowded with students. Mostly white. I guess i'm going to have to get used to that, we are in Oregon. Thankfully, the halls aren't as chaotic as they were at my old school, though. I bite the bottom of my lip nervously.
Where is it?
I dodge someone rushing past. My eyes scan the classroom tags beside the doors. Mr. Ellis, Mrs. Folly, Mrs. Ard... No. No. No. The halls start to thin out as people reach their classrooms.
Eventually, I'm the only one left except for the janitor. I think about asking him for help but he looks a little sus if you know what I mean.
I continue down the hall for a couple minutes until I see a student walking out of class. A feeling of relief washes over me. I walk over to her quickly, desperate for help. It's a taller girl with dark brown skin.
"Hey, can you help me with something, please?" I ask. As I approach her she looks me up and down.
"New student, huh?"
I nod.
"What do you need help with?"
She smiles when I tell her.
"You're lucky you got Mr. Jansen. He's awesome. Unfortunately, I got Ms. Hayes. Total witch. Actually take that back, witches aren't that bad."
"Anyways..I'll walk you down to his class. I want to skip as much of Ms. Hayes as I can. His room is on the other side by the way," she says this then starts towards the opposite direction in which I was going. Her long box braids swing behind her as she struts confidently down the hallway.
"I'm Sasha by the way," she calls to me, still walking.
Am I a bit intimidated? Yes. Is she gorgeous? Absolutely. Do I need to start walking and stop standing here dumbly? Also, yes. I hurry to catch up with her.
"What year are you?"
"Junior."
"Same."
We reach Mr. Jansen's room shortly. I feel myself get nervous and suddenly I have to pee.
I think Sasha notices because she turns to me.
"Hey, you'll be fine. You seem cool and you're really pretty. You'll be fine, okay?" she reassures me.
"O-okay. Um my names Malysa by the way."
"Okay, Malysa, good luck. I'll see you around," she replies, waving.
I watch as she walks back down the hall and my eyebrows raise checking her out. Sheesh. I turn back towards the door and take a deep breath.
Knock. knock.
"Someones at the door!" I hear someone yell from inside. I gulp. The door handle turns and a short, curly headed boy peeks out.
"New student?" he asks in a soft voice.
I nod.
He opens the door wider so that I can enter. Everyone in the class is now staring at me. Everyone is staring at me. Oh God.
I gulp and look towards the teacher. A younger looking man with a thick, dark mustache and kind brown eyes.
"Okay guys this is uh-,"
"Malysa," I say quietly.
"Maylsa! She's a newbie and I expect all of you to be decent human beings and help her out if she needs any help. Got it?"
"Yes sir," the class says all together.
"Alright Malysa, find an empty seat. Probably shouldn't sit beside Bryce though."
"Hey!" a buff blonde guy yells defensively. The class snorts and giggles in response.
I take his advice though and just sit in the back beside this girl in a dark green turtle neck. She doesn't look up, she seems very interested in the book she's reading.
Thankfully, Mr. Jansen hands out a new assignment. Now people could focus on something other than me. There are still a few glances my way but thankfully no one is staring full on.
I reach into my bag for a pencil to write with but feel nothing. Crap. I must have left my pencils home. I sigh, looking over to my left. An Asian girl with thick eyeliner, black lipstick, and dark clothes is sitting beside me. She looks mad. I hesitate. Maybe, I'll just ask someone else.
I turn to my right and my eyes land on the girl in the turtle neck. I can't really see her face since shes bent over her work. Her shiny, dark hair veils the side of her faced. She looks really focused, I don't want to bother- just ask for a damn pencil.
"Hey. Hey," I whisper trying to get her attention. When she doesn't seem to hear me I reach out and gently poke her arm. She slowly looks up from what she's doing and tucks some hair behind her ear.
I now have a view of her full face and...wow. She has the most beautiful hazel eyes and long lashes. She has a dorsal hump nose but it suits her. She resembles a Greek goddess and those lips, God. I wonder what she could do with those lips...
"Hello? Did you need something?" She ask this in a slightly annoyed tone. Her voice is smooth and low- pitched.
"I- yeah, sorry. Can I borrow a pencil? Or anything to write with, it doesn't matter, really," I reply, blushing.
Very smooth, Mal.
"Sure." She leans down and starts digging in her messenger style bag. I feel my heart jump when she looks back up. Her hand brushes mine when she gives me the pencil, making me blush even harder. God, get a grip, Mal.
"Thanks," I say quietly, taking it.
She stays silent the rest of the period and so do I.
Hey! I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I'm so excited to continue this story. :))
