We were all at Manny's soccer game and I was a little mad because they didn't let me play with the excuse that I'm a girl. But come on! We're in 2009 not 1909!!!!
Ok I lied. I was more than a little mad. But because Manny is my best friend since we're in diapers, I didn't show it to support him and buried it deep inside."Vamos, Manny! Kick it! Kick it! Don't let him- Kick it!" Gloria was yelling like her life depended on it while I was next to her, worried with how bad they were and thinking about the fact that if I were on the team, we would be winning.
"Manny, go! A la derecha! A la derecha! No! No, no. He tripped him, Jay. Where's the penalty?""Gloria, they're 0 and 6. Let's take it down a notch." Jay tried to calm her, but it didn't seem to work, because Gloria was still yelling like a mad woman.
"Manny, stop him! Stop him! You can do it!"
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." I said, exasperated, because Manny stopped playing for the reason that a girl, I'm assuming his new crush, was riding a bike next to the field. He waved at her but the girl didn't seem to care (like always...).
"Language!" Jay intervened.
"Sorry..."
"Damn it, Manny!" A boy from the team said, I still don't know his name, I'm really bad at remembering names.
A mother intervened. "Come on, Coach. You gotta take that kid out."
Oh no. She wasn't speaking like this about Manny under my watch, but thankfully Gloria intervened. "You wanna take him out? How about I take you out?"
"Honey, honey." Jay sensed the situation was gonna go down, but Gloria ignored him.
"Why don't you worry about your son? He spent the first half with his hand in his pants!" My godmother exclaimed.
BAM! Now yeah go away and shut the fuck up. Another parent approached Gloria. "I've wanted to tell her off for the last six weeks. I'm Josh. Ryan's dad."
"Hi, I'm Gloria Pritchett. Manny's mother and Celia's godmother."
"Oh, and this must be your dad, and Celia."
"Her dad?" Poor Jay said. "No, no. That's funny. Actually, I'm her husband. Don't be fooled by the, uh-" He tried to get up from his chair but he didn't succeed. A laugh escaped my lips and he glared at me. "You, shut up. But give me a second here."
The coach came to see us. "I can't take it anymore. Celia, replace Ryan and please, I beg you, please score some goals."
"I thought you would never ask."
. . .
"Oh my God! Did you see how I killed it! We didn't won but I had like an impossible mission, in 15minutes score 7 goals? I scored 5 and I got lucky because the opponent team sucked..." I knew I was rambling about my success, but come on, who could score 5 goals in 15minutes, except me?
"I'm quitting soccer. It is a game for children."
"But why? Did you see how we killed it out there? Next time we could win!" I didn't want him to quit, because of the fact that even if he wasn't a good player, he tried his hardest and that's better than some of my other teammates did. Yeah he stopped to wave to a 16 year old girl who doesn't care about him, but things like that happen.
"No, you're not quitting. You would have stopped that goal if you weren't staring at that little girl."
"She is not a girl. She's a woman." I couldn't stop my eyes from rolling at listening that. Manny has a different crush every week.
We entered the car, and Jay, who was waiting for us, started the car.
