Today was the first day of school. At Gloria's dismay, I didn't put on a skirt, but I put on a grey tee-shirt, black jeans and I tied the laces on my black Converse, before walking down the stairs.

I saw Manny with his poncho on, and smiled proudly at him.

"Hold on. What are you wearing there?" With the tone of Jay's voice, I sensed he was against it. "That looks like an old Christmas tree skirt."

"It's a traditional Colombian poncho." I explained.

"I want my new classmates to know I'm proud of my heritage." Manny added.

"I think you both look very handsome. Lindos." Gloria complimented us, kissing us in our forehead.

We exited the house and began talking together, really excited about entering fifth grade.

Manny and I were pulled out of class, without explanation.

The tears began to build up in my face, wondering what happened to Gloria and Jay. I couldn't avoid remembering the last time I was pulled out of class.

When we exited the classroom and saw Jay and Gloria were perfectly fine, I ran towards them and hugged her really tightly, sobbing.

"Is something wrong? Who's died?" Manny asked.

"No one, Manny." Gloria answered, comforting me.

"Why would you even think that? And what is the matter with this one?" Jay questioned.

"In Colombia, they went to Pablo Escobar Elementary School. If you were pulled out of class, it was definitely to identify a body. Last time it happened, it was Celia's parents who died." She said, trying to calm my sobs and stopping my tears from falling.

"Well, we got your poncho here." Jay gave it to him.

"I thought you said it made me look like my neck was wearing a dress."

"That was a joke." Jay explained.

I finally calmed myself and released Gloria from my hug.

"Look if it's still in the pocket." I said to him, still teary eyed.

"It is!" He exclaimed.

"What do you got there, buddy?"

"My pan flute. I'm going to play some Colombian folk music for my new classmates."

"Huh. Great."

"I have never been more proud of you." Gloria complimented her son. "I'm sure your friends are gonna love it."

"Hey, sport. Can I take a look at that whistle?" Jay asked.

He took it from him and dropped it.

"Oh, geez. Look at that."

"And now you stepped on it!" Gloria exclaimed.

"What? Oh, darn! What's wrong with me?"

Manny looked devastated. We came back to class and I whispered to him,
"Don't worry, I'll fix it for you." before taking my seat next to Luke.

............................^.^.............................

During dinner, we let Manny do his dance and I suddenly understood why Jay and Gloria didn't want to let him do it in class.

But that didn't stop me of smiling brightly and clapping when he finished.

Hey everybody!
Sorry for the really short chapter, but Manny wasn't in much scenes and I didn't knew how to include Celia into it.
I also had a lot of work I wanted to get done during the week so sorry. I hope you all will forgive me.
