Lisa was called to play with her friends. School was finally over and summer was here. Lisa agreed because she realized how long it had been since Jennie agreed to be her best friend. Technically, it's unofficial, but Lisa could feel Jennie coming around.

It's been four months and they have gotten closer.

Jennie waited on the stairs watching Lisa play all the different sports, they switched games every half hour because Lisa kept getting bored. She had asked Jennie to join many times, but Jennie waved her off every time.

"Lisa-yah, let's go home!" Jennie called for her.

"Five more minutes." Lisa put her hand up.

Lisa said that for the tenth time already and Jennie was getting fed up. Three hours had pass since they first played. Jennie put on her jacket, sometimes, nights during the summer was cold and tonight was one of those nights. Jennie left in a fit of pique.

Lisa would always listen to her. She felt something different this time when Lisa didn't listen to her right away.

"Jennie eonnie! Wait!"

Lisa quickly gathered her things and caught up with her. She was breathing heavily while waving goodbye to her friends. Jennie handed her a water bottle.

"I wanted to leave an hour ago."

"I was having too much fun, sorry."

They walk back to their buildings quietly. Too quiet. Lisa noticed Jennie looking down. This was a sign she wanted to say something, but she's contemplating whether she should or not.

"Jeje."

"Mhm?"

"Want to get ice cream?" Lisa asked.

"Why? It's cold."

"Never stopped you before."

"Can I wait at the park?"

Lisa furrowed her brows. Jennie always wants to go with her.

"No, I can't leave you alone. Mom's order."

Jennie sighed, "Fine, but I don't want any ice cream."

"Alright, what's wrong?" Lisa stopped abruptly.

She studied Jennie's facial expression: annoyed.

"What do you mean, 'what's wrong?'"

"You've been quiet."

"I'm always quiet."

"Jennie, tell me what's wrong." Lisa reached her hand out for Jennie's.

"I change my mind, I do want ice cream."

"Okay, I'm letting it go for now." Lisa could tell Jennie didn't want to speak about for now and that she should talk to her about it later.

Lisa was enjoying her ice cream, occasionally saying hi to people that she knew. Ice cream was a bad idea because a cold breeze was coming their way, Lisa shivered. Jennie took notice and scolded her for not bringing a jacket.

It had quieted down again when Jennie suddenly broke the silence.

"Lisa-yah."

"Yes?"

"Am I pretty?" Jennie sat in front of Lisa, looking up at her.

"Of course you are, is there a reason you would think otherwise?" Lisa tucked a strand of hair behind Jennie's ear.

Jennie's heart twitched. Lisa was always doing little things like that. Holding her hair back when she was eating. Holding her hand while Jennie was walking down a steep hill. Wiping down dirt when she sat on something dirty. She learned to get used to it and when Lisa wasn't there for her when she encountered those type of things, she found herself talking to air.

"I don't want to snitch."

"Hey, did someone tell you that you are not pretty?" Lisa stood up.

"Calm down, it's not what you think."

"Then what is it."

"Someone said you only became friends with me because I'm pretty."

"Of course, but that's not the main reason why."

"Hmm, what is it then?" Jennie pulled Lisa to sit back down.

"You were really nice to me when I first got here."

"So, is it kind of like returning a favor?"

"Yes, but no. I chose you because you were Kim Jennie, that's all you need to know. Now, am I pretty?"

"Hmm," Jennie moved Lisa's face around with her hands, "Maybe if I gave you a big slap in your face, your face will be reconstructed and become pretty."

"Meanie." Lisa turned away.

"I'm just kidding." Jennie wrapped her arms around Lisa's neck. "You're pretty." Jennie mumbled in Lisa's chest.

"Say it louder, I can't hear you."

"You're pretty." Jennie whispered to spite Lisa.

Lisa lifted Jennie's face up with both her hands. Their faces were merely centimetres apart. "Say it."

"You're," Jennie gulped, "Pretty."

Lisa looked down at Jennie's pout-y lips. When she had her eyes on Jennie's, she could see Jennie's eyes on her lips. Lisa's heart was pounding loud, she was worried Jennie would be able to hear it. When she leaned in to blow away an eyelash, Jennie closed her eyes. Maybe she was getting the wrong signal, but you regret the chances you didn't take, so Lisa placed her lips on Jennie's. No one dared to move. Both of them were inexperienced. Their hearts were beating very irregularly, but they were both synchronized.

Jennie tasted the chocolate ice cream, while Lisa tasted the milk ice cream.

Chocolate ice cream.

Milk ice cream.

Chocolate ice cream.

Milk ice cream.

Chocolate ice cream.

That night Jennie went to sleep touching her lips.

"I'm sorry, Lisa." Jennie pushed her back a little. "I'm more than willing to give you love, but I don't think I'm ready to receive it yet."

Jennie got up and ran back to her apartment, wiping away her tears. She wondered why she was even crying.

Lisa thought she had messed up, she skipped all the phases between unofficial best friend and whatever they had. She called for Jennie, but the girl was long gone. She could have run after her, but decided against it to give Jennie time.

"Too soon?"

Lisa walked back with her shoulders slumped. The kiss was unexpected. It wasn't planned. It just happened at the moment. Did she just ruin their friendship? Gosh, why did she have to kiss her. Lisa sighed. If Jennie wasn't ready to be with her, then she'll just have to wait. Frankly, Lisa didn't think she would be ready to be with Jennie either.

There were just so many "what if's," if they ever got together. Maybe it was for the best that they distanced themselves.

And just like that, four months of friendship down the drain. They didn't become friends in the most traditional way, but different was the new trend. Lisa always stood out. Whether it be her short hair back then, dressing less feminine before her recent change in style or even being the exchange student.

There was only one good thing that came out of this. To have her lips touch Jennie's.
