Chapter 1: The New Girl In Town (x)
Three weeks ago my mother Amanda, my big brother Alex and me of course moved to the suburbs of Sidney in the house my grandmother left us after she died. Not to sound rude or anything but she died right I time. I never knew my grandmother and I wasn't devastated or anything when I heard about her death. We never had a relationship anyway.
My mother left my father a couple of month ago because he cheated on her with his secretary. Very cliché I know.
We had to move in a really small apartment and Alex and I had to share a bathroom. It was really annoying and terrifying to say the least. Since I was little I always had my own bathroom. I didn't have to share it with my disgusting big brother who smokes weed in the bathtub and takes ages to do his hair. Which still looks just as messy as it did before he walked in the bathroom.
Anyways, our new house is huge. Downstairs we have a huge kitchen which connects with the dining room. A big living room and a huge glass door which leads outside to our garden which includes a pool and a hot tub. I always wanted the hot tub, I mean how awesome is that?
My mom's bedroom is downstairs as well, not as big as Alex's or mine though. As long she's fine with it, so am I. A small bathroom with a shower, a toilet and one sink is next to my mothers bedroom, and of course we have a big hall where all our jackets, shoes and keys took place.
Upstairs is Alex's bedroom, a typical guy bedroom. Huge bed, a couch, a TV, his precious Xbox and basically dirty clothes all over the place and it mostly smelled like weed, alcohol and sex. That's why I never set one foot into his room. Alex has his own bathroom across of his room. It's was the biggest one. Two sinks, a shower, a toilet along with a urinal and a bathtub.
I was a little jealous of the bathtub but well, I have my own bathroom right behind my room.
My room was the biggest. I have a huge closet which spreads over a whole wall. A bookshelf which does the same. A big cupboard with a TV and loads of dvd's and TV shows on it. My walls are picture covered. Pictures of me and my family, friends and of course my favorite bands.
Next to my room is our 'playroom'. Sounds much dirtier than it actually is. There is a TV as well with the newest play station and a wii along with a billiard table, a computer and several actual board games no one uses anymore.
Alex got around really fast, he was out almost every night and already made new friends. Me on the other hand almost didn't leave the house at all. Honestly, I'm a bit awkward and shy around new people and I don't like being the one who does the first step.
I mostly went out with my mom when she did the grocery shopping but that was basically it. I spend my summer either at the poolside or in the hot tub, working on my tan, but never without my laptop. But it actually seems like the longer I stay out in the sun the more pale I get. My skin is a mystery to me.
Sadly the summer break found an end yesterday. Today's the first day of hell at my new school. I wasn't very keen of the idea of meeting new people and sitting in a class room all day long, then going home to do unnecessary and annoying homework.
With a loud groan I stumbled out of bed and into my bathroom to take a quick shower and brush my teeth right after my alarm ended my beautiful dream about Jensen Ackles and me making out. I took my sweet time and only hurried up a little when my mom shouted from downstairs that breakfast was ready.
With only a towel wrapped around my pale body I trotted to my closet to put on some underwear, dark blue hot pants and a flower printed tight top which showed my belly a little.
"Samantha? Samantha are you all done? I don't want you to be late for you first day of school!" I heard my mother say before I saw her head sneaking inside my room. Gosh I hate it so much when she calls me by my
full name.
"Yes mom. I'm done. I'll be down in a minute." I sighed and inspected myself in the mirror once again. My long blonde hair fell casually down my shoulders, it looked quite messy today though so I decided to put it up in bun.
"Good morning sleepy head." My mom greeted me as soon as I stepped in the kitchen. The fresh smell of bacon and eggs crept up my nose when I sat down next to Alex who seemed still half asleep. "Morning." I mumbled rather grumpy. Getting up early in the morning was nothing I was very fond of especially not when I have to get up because of school or even worse, a new school where I'm gonna be the new kid.
"Alex are you taking the car to school?" I asked my brother who was stuffing his mouth full of scrambled eggs. "Hmh."
"Can you take me with you? I don'twant to walk."
"No."
"Wow thanks a lot." I replied annoyed and rolled my eyes at him. "Alexander please take you sister with you." My mom butted in and took a sip of her hot coffee.
"No. She can walk. It's not that far." He mumbled and rose from his chair. "And stop calling me Alexander. You know I fucking hate this name." He added before he stormed out of the kitchen. "Asshole." I mumbled under my breath, took an apple from the table and stood up as well. "I better go now as well. I don't wanna be late." I sarcastically said and obviously faked a smile.
"It's not going to be that bad Sam. You'll like your new school I'm sure of it." I rolled my eyes and took a bite from the apple. "Yeeeah. Anyways, are you going to be here later or will you be gone?" Mom works in management in some important business company and is therefore barely home. She either works really late or is on business meetings for days or even weeks. I'm not complaining thought. It means I have more time for myself and no one telling me what to do or asking uncomfortable questions.
"I'm not sure yet. But I'm probably going to be late today." She announced. "Alright." I nodded. "See you later or tomorrow." I grabbed my bag and left the kitchen to put on my black vans.
When I left the house I saw Alex climbing in his black fort mustang. When he turned eighteen our dad got him the car and it was an understatement to say that I'm jealous of Alex. I love this car and as soon as I get my drivers license I'm gonna steal his keys and never return them to him. He would probably kill me but it would be worth it. I'm literally in love with these kind of cars.
"Hey looser. Wanna get in?" Alex shouted out of his car. I furrowed my eyebrows together and slowly walked towards the black vehicle. "In your dreams sis." He laughed and drove off with screeching tires. "Fucking asshole!" I yelled after him angrily. I should have known he'd do something like this.
Alex and I always tease each other. He was literally the most annoying big brother you could have. We always insult each other and act like we don't care about each other but we both know, at the end of the day, we're always there for each other.
When I realized that Alex won't come back to take me with him I pulled my headphone out of my bag and connected them to my phone to listen to Anywhere but here by Mayday Parade again and again and again. It's my favorite song right now and I'm listening it on repeat.
Humming, I walked down the streets and arrived at school about twenty minutes later. Only the sight of the building made me want to puke.
Against my will my feet carried me towards the huge brick building. I noticed girls and boys, laughing and talking to each other. Couples that made out and held hands. People smoking outside in the parking lots and...my brother.
He was leaning against his car, talking to a rather tall and good looking guy around his age. In case I want to reach the school I had to walk past them. Hopefully Alex won't bother talking to me.
But of course he did.
"Hey there sis. How was your walk? You seem much fresher already." Alex grinned and threw a cigarette on the ground. "Thanks. The walk was very nice. You should try it as well. You're getting lazy." I said with a fake smile. The guy next to Alex chuckled and nodded. "I think she's right mate." He laughed and turned to me. His soft green eyes inspected my whole body and a smile spread over his face, showing off crater deep dimples.
"I'm Ashton. You must me Sam right?" He asked with a sweet smile. He is good looking, really good looking. Damn.
"Yes that's me. How do you know this moron?" I asked and pointed to Alex. "We met at a pub downtown." Ashton shrugged. "How come I never saw you around?"
"Because she's never leaving the house." Alex butted in with a grin. "No one asked you." I snapped and rolled my eyes. "He's kinda right though. I enjoyed our hot tub over the summer." I shrugged a little bit embarrassed.
Ashton's eyebrows raised at the word hot tub. "A hot tub huh? Alex never mentioned you have one. I should definitely come over and try it." He smirked. I blushed and nodded. "Uh yeah. Anyway I should go now. See you around." I smiled and showed the middle finger to Alex before I turned around to walk into the school building.
The school is even more depressing from the inside than from the outside. It already looks like a prison from outside but in here it's even worse. I felt like I'm going to be sick. I think I'm allergic to shook buildings or something. Every single person in here is annoying me already.
Hesitantly I looked for the principals office. Luckily for me it was right at the end of the hall. Easy to find. I knocked on the door and discussed all the important things I needed to know with the principal Mrs Stark. She handed me my time table and explained how I'll find my first class.
It already began when I reached the class room. Apparently I have English now. Well, it's definitely better than chemistry or math.
With a heavily pounding heart I knocked on the door. Only seconds after I heard a male voice say 'Come in.'
After I took a deep breath I opened the door and sneaked inside. Everyone's attention was fixed on me now.
Seriously? Never seen a girl before? Gosh I hate this. They look at me like I just murdered someone.
"Uhm hi." I awkwardly started. "I'm Samantha Green. I'm new to your class." I told the grey haired teacher. "Ah yes! Mrs Stark told me that we're having a new student this year. I'm Mr. Hunter. Your English, History and Politics teacher." He announced with a smile on his face. "You can sit down next to Luke over there." He said and pointed to a blond haired guy at the end of the classroom. It was the only seat left.
I nodded and managed to mumble a quiet 'okay' before I sat down next to blondie.
"Hey, I'm Luke." He smiled as soon as I sat down next to him. "Sam." I simply replied and I got my books and my pencil case out of my bag.
Mr. Hunter continued to check who is present and who isn't. Mostly every student was in class except one.
"Mr. Clifford? Is he here?" Mr. Hunter asked and scanned the room. "That's nothing new." He frowned. "Mr. Hood. I think you know where Mr. Clifford is?" He asked and looked to the other end of class to a tanned, dark haired boy with a lazy look on his face. "Nope. I'm afraid not sir." He spoke and flashed Mr. Hunter a fake smile.
Next to me Luke shook his head and frowned. "Typical."
"Who is the guy they are talking about?" I asked curiously. Luke turned to me and whispered, "They're talking about Michael Clifford. He's the schools bad boy. He barely attends to class and if he does he's late. He sleeps around. Smokes. Takes drugs. He throws the biggest parties. Weekends and weekdays. He has this 'I don't give a fuck' attitude. It's really annoying. He's an absolute asshole." Luke explained. "And the guy over there, that's Calum Hood. Michaels best friend. He is the best soccer player in town and just like Michael, a cocky asshole. He only attends classes because otherwise he wouldn't be able to go to this sport college he wants to go to."
"Sounds just like my brother." I replied annoyed. Luke opened his mouth to answer but he was cut off by the class room door, which was shut close in force. In came a tall, pale, red haired guy with tattoos on his arm and a piercing in his face.
"Mr. Clifford. What a pleasure to see you again." Mr. Hunter said rather sarcastically. "Why are you late?" Michael shrugged and scratched his stubbly chin. "Overslept." He said lazily and sat down next to Calum.
Out of some reason I couldn't avert my eyes from him. Durning the whole class I watched Michael from the corner of my eye. I quickly turned away though when he glanced over to me or a short moment. After that I noticed he leaned over to Calum, and pointed at me with a huge grin on his face.
Well that's embarrassing.
I quickly turned my eyes away and tried to focus on Mr Hunter reading out some text about...well something I didn't really care about to be honest.
After class was over I packed my bag and left the room quickly.
"Hey uhm Sam?" I heard a male voice say. I swirled around and noticed Luke standing behind me. "What is it?" I asked politely and moved a few steps closer to him. "Do you maybe want to hang out? I could show you around if you want." He suggested shyly.
I thought about his offer for a second before I nodded. He seems really nice so why the hell not.
"So, tell me something about you." I demanded while we walked to our next class. "There is nothing much to talk about to be honest." He shrugged. "My names Luke Hemmings. I'm 17. I have two older brothers...uhm..I like to read but I also love video games. I play the guitar and I'd like to think that I can sing very well." He said rather shy.
"Really? I'd love to hear something one day!" I replied excitedly. Luke's head shot into my direction. "You do?" Eagerly I nodded. "Definitely!"
"Well uhm..we could maybe meet this Sunday. If you like?"
"Sounds great!"
I spend the rest of the day with Luke, laughing and talking about nothing really. I had to admit, I like the guy. He seems really sweet and like one of those guys you can tell anything without him judging you. I really think that we're going to become close friends.
The day past by unexpectedly fast. After second period I noticed Michael and Calum were gone and I haven't seen Alex all day either.
Pretty soon after I found out why.
After school was over Luke walked me home, he almost had the same way to go so we decided to go together. I found out that he listens to the same bands and me and we have the same favorite movies. Even though I was completely shocked when he told me that he never watched Titanic. It is my all time movie and the first thing I'll do with him when we meet outside of school is watch Titanic.
"So, I see you tomorrow. It was really nice meeting you by the way." He smiled and bit his bottom lip. "Same here. And I can't wait for Sunday!"
I chuckled and waved for goodbye.
As soon as I stepped into the house, the smell of weed and alcohol crept up my nose. It was so strong I almost puked.
"Alex? Alex what the fuck?!" I shouted, threw my bag on the floor and ran around the house to look for my brother.
I found him outside in the hot tub and I was completely shocked by who was with him. Not just Ashton but Calum and Michael as well.
How the hell do they know each other?
"Well who do we have here? The new girl." Calum smirked and took a drag from his cigarette. "What the hell are you doing here?" I snapped. "Relaxing in the hot tub. Obviously." he laughed. I rolled my eyes at his stupid comeback and turned to Alex. "Did you seriously skip school on the first day?"
"Well what does it look like?" I noticed Michael and Ashton whispering something to each other while they kept their eyes on me, they turned to Calum soon after. They all glanced at me now, exchanged looks and nodded.
I felt like some rare animal in the zoo anyone could look at and make fun of. Please stop staring at me. I'm insecure enough.
"When mom finds out about this, she's gonna kill you. You know that right?" I scoffed, trying to ignore the half naked boys in the hot tub. "She won't. And if you should tell her, you're gonna regret it." Alex announced with a sweet smile on his face. I shook my head and rolled my eyes, "Yeah whatever."
Before I went back inside, I locked my eyes with Michael's for not even a second and a strange feeling washed through my entire body.
What is it about this guy that makes me feel so...excited?
