Part 4: Case of the Missing Money

The grocery store handles a large amount of cash on any given day, which gets picked up regularly to get counted and put into the safe by the managers. It is not the responsibility of any of the front end workers to handle, manage, or count cash unless you are taking it from a customer and giving them change. This means that there are only about four people in the store that have access to large sums of money, which helps reduce the number of cash thefts.

Which seems like a good system in practice... BUT (and there is always a but at this store)... there has been more than one sketchy person choose to have the responsivity of counting money.

Carley was one of the more entertaining managers, who very rarely did her job and spent the majority of her time complaining about her money troubles or trying to go home early. Just before she was finally let go from the store for more than one reason, there was a large sum of money taken from the safe (which a year later still has not been found). The amount of cash that had gone missing was a little over $500, which coincidentally was the exact amount Carley needed to make her next rent payment.

About a week before the theft took place, Carley told anyone who would listen that she was going to get kicked out if she didn't find a way to make $500 quickly. Which is why the suspicion fell on her after the money was taken.

But as I stated earlier, there has been "more than one" individual who has been put in charge of the money that didn't have the best moral compass. Every so often, we hear of small sums of money going missing or bills that were turned into a cashier no longer being there when the customer comes looking for their lost $100s. Now they just have to figure out how is the new Carley is.
