One Last Night, Orion

CHAPTER 1

I am in my last year in college with a degree program in Bachelor of Multimedia Arts. So far, ayos naman ang pag-aaral ko. If you'll ask me if I'm happy in my course, hmm yes, sort of.  Since I was  young I used to compete in Journalism that's why I took Multimedia Arts in college. 

Don't worry I'm not a nerd. Hindi rin ako nagsusunog ng kilay HAHAHA. Chill lang ako. Ayokong ma-stress ang sarili ko. Pahihirapan ko lang si Dada kapag nagkasakit ako.

"Wala na namang prof?" Ysah asked. We are in our last class today but It looks like Mr. Guererro will not attend our class today. What a lazy professor? tss. 

Nothing changed.

"Ysah, may bago ba? By the way, sasama ka ba bukas?" I am going to Basco, Batanes stargazing camp for 3 days. I can't missed out the last quarter moon, Perseid Meteor Shower Peak, Venus at its Greatest Angle West of the Sun but of course to see my favorite constellation on a very clear sky. 

"Ahm friend, sorry I can't. We have a family dinner tomorrow. Maybe sunod na lang ako." she showed me an awkward smile and peace sign. I sighed and put my things back on my bag.

I smiled at her.

"It's okay. Sunod ka na lang. I'll go now. Take care." She smiled back and mouthed 'sorry' on me.

"Dada. Dada." I called my dad as I step inside our house but no one answering.

Uhmm something smells delicious. I ran to our kitchen and there I saw my Dada cooking beef steak. I was surprised to see a bucket of fried chicken in our dining table. Are we gonna celebrate the occasion? Baka nakakalimot na din ako. There are lots of food prepared by my father. I can't stop myself from asking. 

"Seriously, Dada we are just two here. Ang dami nyan. Anong meron?" 

He placed first the plate of beef steak on the table and then he looked at me with his heartwarming smile. He holds my hands and slightly squiz it.

I look at him too waiting for his words. I am really nervous now.

"Tina, your medical test says that so far your lungs are in its good condition since you are very good patient. And also because of your continuous medication and exercise." 

I just give him a nod and a small smile.

Dada was really happy and I just can't ruin it. Hindi naman sa hindi ako masaya, ayoko lang umasa sya lagi. We've been through a lot of problems and I understand why he was so happy about the test. 

Kami na lang kasing dalawa ang magkasama. My mom died because of Heart failure. I was just 10 years old back then. I really did not enjoy my childhood because I have Asthma and when I was in my second year in college I was so sick and my doctor told us that I have Restrictive Lung Disease. 

I wasn't surprised, my lungs are weak. Well, in fact, It's a miracle that I am still alive. The doctor says that those who have this kind of illness have a life span of 2-3 years.

 Naka 2 years na ko and buhay pa naman ako hahaha.

"Let's eat. " I can see the happiness and relieved on his actions. We talked a lot that are related on my lungs. Damn. I don't really like talking about my lungs.

"Dada, I forgot to say that I'll go in camp tomorrow." 

He looked at me with his worried eyes. Oh no Dad, please. Talagang ganyan sya kapag pupunta ako doon. Natatakot sya na baka kung ano mangyare sakin lalo na at malayo ang Batanes. 

"How long?" Dada asked me.

"Just for 3 days po. Come on Dada don't worry. I'm not a kid anymore." I said just to convince him. 

"Ikaw lang?" Hayss kainis kasi tong si Ysah. Sana lang talaga sumunod sya.

"I'm with Ysah but she can't be with me tomorrow so I'll go there first. Susunod na lang daw sya." I finished my food and get a plate of graham cake for me to bring in my room. Dada also got finished his food and ready to put our left over in ref. 

I glanced at my dad again and can't help but to smile. I really have a wonderful father. I am so lucky to have him in my life. 

I called him.

"Dada.. 

I really enjoyed the food.

Thank you! I love you."  

I saw how shock he was because of my words but he still able to smile at me before I went upstairs.
