"One of you can do it, the rest leave us."

"You sure boss?"

"Does it look like she's going anywhere you fuckin imbeciles I said LEAVE!" he bellowed ever so confidently and he was right I truly had nowhere to go – I was sat in a subdued kneeling position with a gun to the back of my head.

My breathing intensified as I watched the scene at hand unfold; Jason's limp unconscious body being haphazardly dragged away by the feet leaving a bloody trail behind it. The slender henchman however was finding it quite difficult to haul a muscular bodied Jason to his doom – taking a pause every once in a while to readjust himself and take a few labored breaths.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me. I'm working with a bunch of retards." He states growing more and more impatient by the minute. Time was of the essence, and sensing an opportunity I let my body take over so madly driven by adrenaline I didn't have to think or plan my next moves. They almost came natural to me. Swiping my foot from beneath the Joker's was risky ordeal, he had a gun in his hand and could fire at any given moment, but the element of surprise had ultimately worked in my favor. He hadn't expected me to fight back, and therefore before he could even register what was going on he had already toppled over violently with immense momentum, gun cluttered right beside him. Hastily crawling out of his line of vision I grabbed onto the handle of the gun and dived straight to Jason's aid.

"Don't make one more fucking move!" I screamed out breathlessly. If I had come a second later god I didn't want to think about what would have happened if I came by a second later.

The slender looking man wore a look of defiance on his face.

"You won't do it"

"What? Stand the fuck down or I'll shoot you"

"You don't have it in you, princess." I believed in that moment that love was to be the most dangerous human emotion. The moment you allow yourself to fall in love you agree to so much more than you think. It's like signing a contract and not reading the fine print. You agree to passion, happiness and endless euphoric moments. Not taking into account factors such as sacrifice and heartbreak. Love is beautiful – yes there is no doubt in that, but it can turn destructive very quickly. The real question is, how far will you go to save your loved ones?

I saw one way to put an end to this and it was simple really, but I should've known that my point of view was flawed. Because the moment I pulled the trigger I realized that we were too close to the edge and one last kick was all it was going to take for Jason's frail form to topple off the bridge. I saw it in slow motion really the way the man ducked past the spray of bullets, but not before one hitting him square in the chest. The way he gathered up his last bits of strength and chose to haul Jason's unconscious body off the bridge as a last act of defiance.

Promise me something. Promise me that no matter what you choose you. Promise me that if I'm in the face of danger you will let me handle it and walk the other way. I need you to choose you.

"I'm sorry I lied Jay, but I need you to wake up now. Jason you need to help me I don't think I'll be able to pull you up by myself." I pleaded with him as I held onto him for dear life. My thighs were still on the bridge the only thing keeping us from falling down, but everything was working against us the rain that was violently pouring causing him to slip, gravity and well most importantly fate.

Run scarlet I could swear I heard him whisper through the wind.

"I am not leaving without you! I just need you to help me out"

If you don't leave now we'll both end up dying. Choose you!

Never, not when I heard movement from behind me, or when I felt my thigh buckle the moment a bullet embedded itself deep inside me. I didn't let go and climb back up when I felt aching pain shoot up my spine or when sticky wet warmth coated my clothes. To the very last moment I had hope I had hope that his eyes would open back up revealing those blue jewels of his one last time. That he would save us one last time, but his eyes remained shut the whole time, and I let him slip right out of my hands. One second I had him and then he was gone, and soon thereafter I followed suit hitting the water with a cold splash.

The rigged waves were cold and relentless, bringing me back up for one strangled breath only to forcefully push me back into its sea of torture – setting forth fire in my lungs as they filled themselves up with their fair share of sea water, but that was not what hurt the most. Nothing compared to knowing I had failed Jason Todd one last time.
