Trixcelia Scarlett Malfoy had never really been one to want to stand out. As a member of one of the most prominent pureblood families, she simply had to act the part of the proper society wife. Attend Beaubatons. Gossip. Date carefully, or not at all.

Her grandfather has raised both her and her twin brother Lucius, as their parents had been killed when they were young. Brutus Malfoy had strict ideals about how purebloods should behave, ideals that his grandchildren were expected to follow.

This was why, after years of living under her grandfather's thumb, Trixie had decided to take charge of her own life. She had moved out once she turned 17 and transferred herself to Hogwarts for her final year. Lucius already attended, so she wouldn't be alone.

On the train, however, she sat by herself. Lucius was a prefect, so he and his prefect girlfriend Narcissa Black were in the prefect meeting. There was a commotion outside her compartment, and then the door slid open and a boy with decidedly unkept hair and crooked glasses stumbled – was pushed? – inside.

"Hey!" he spluttered, glaring at the answering laughs from outside. Clearing his throat, he gave Trixie a once-over, and his eyes widened in shock. "Oi, Sirius, come here."

Another boy, this one with styled black hair and regal grey eyes like her own, strode in.

"Doesn't she look like Malfoy?" the first boy continued.

Trixie tried not to flinch at the comparison; not because she didn't love her brother, but because of the accusing tone of the boy's voice.

Sirius, who Trixie now recognized as the boy she had seen skulking at the back of many a party, looked at her coldly. "That's because she's his twin. What are you doing at Hogwarts, Malfoy? Beaubatons' not good enough for you?"

Trixie gave him an icy Malfoy glare, trying to imitate her grandfather. "It's none of your business what school I go to or why, Black."

Sirius laughed humorlessly. "It wouldn't matter to me, except that you're in our compartment. Move."

Trixie made a big show of looking around. "I don't see your name on it. Find somewhere else."

Sirius glowered at her, and Trixie stared right back, quaking internally at her own actions.

"Boys, you're blocking the corridor, what's going on?" A gorgeous girl with dark red curls pushed into the compartment.

The boy with the glasses immediately ruffled up his hair with a hand. "Hey, Evans. Good summer?"

"Yes, I didn't see you for three months." The girl deadpanned. "Now what's going on here?"

Sirius pointed to Trixie. "Malfoy here won't get out of our compartment."

The girl just looked at them.

"Let's just find somewhere else." The boy with the glasses muttered to Sirius, dragging the mutinous boy out.

The girl watched them go, and then plopped down on the seat in relief. "Can I sit here?" she checked.

"Of course. As long as you don't try to kick me out, too." Trixie joked.

The girl rolled her eyes. "Can you believe them? I'm Lily Evans, by the way."

"Trixie Malfoy. Who were those boys? I knew Sirius, but the others..."

"James Potter was the one with the glasses, and I don't know if you saw Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, but they were outside. Probably trying to stay out of it." Lily smiled sympathetically. "Do you know why they were giving you such a hard time?"

"Because I'm Lucius Malfoy's twin sister, and for some reason that's a bad thing." Trixie said bitterly.

"You're his twin? What school have you been going to?" Lily asked curiously.

The rest of the train ride and subsequent carriage ride to the castle, the two discussed Beaubatons, Hogwarts, and their personal lives. It seemed they both enjoyed Potions, and thought Divination was a waste of time.

Hogwarts was even bigger that Trixie had imagined. Spiraling towers rose to pierce the sky, one with a yardstick taped to it.

Lily nudged her. "That's the Gryffindor tower."

"What's the yardstick doing there?" Trixie asked in confusion.

The ginger rolled her eyes. Potter taped it up there so that the Gryffindor tower would be taller than the Ravenclaw tower."

Trixie outwardly scoffed, thinking to herself that this was totally something she would do. She followed Lily into the castle, in awe of the intricate paintings. One, a bearded older gentleman, waved merrily to her.

"Miss Malfoy!" Trixie turned to see a tall woman with dark hair pulled severely into a bun striding towards her. "Miss Malfoy, I'll need you to come with me. We're going to Sort you before the first years."

"Good luck." Lily squeezed her hand. "I'll see you at the feast, regardless."
