The day seemed to drag on and it didn't take long for me to realize that Asmodeus failed to tell me when exactly he would be picking me up for dinner. This led to me sitting on my couch in a black cocktail dress for at least an hour, watching tv as I waited while trying to not think about the conversation I had earlier with Thalia.
As much as I tried to push it off though, her attitude stuck in my mind. For a brief moment I entertained the thought that maybe she knew something I didn't, but I laughed that one off; there's no way she would even remotely believe anything about what was really happening, or even believe that Asmodeus existed in the first place.
A sudden knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts and I jumped up, quickly stepping into my heels before opening the door. I felt my chest clench as soon as I laid eyes on him; the dark scruff on his chin had grown out a bit and the suit he was wearing was tailored damn near perfectly to him. I had never been one for suits, but seeing him in a white button up with a black jacket and matching pants and tie made me swoon.
He smiled widely when he saw me, subtly eyeing me up and down as he stepped inside slowly. "You...are simply the most stunning creature I've ever laid eyes on."
I couldn't hold back my own smile, straightening up slightly and running a hand over the skirt of my dress. "I take it you like the dress?"
"It's not so much the dress as it is the person wearing it," He answered simply before adding, "The dress is an added bonus, however. Remind me to get you more like it."
With a laugh I grabbed my clutch, trying to push back the thought that I shouldn't be so comfortable with his comments and smiling at him. He held out an arm as he returned the smile and asked, "Shall we?"
I nodded, placing my hand into the fold of his arm and he pulled me close as we walked out of my apartment. After locking the door behind us, he turned us towards the stairs and in the next step we were standing in the lobby of a beautiful restaurant.
"What the..." I looked around quickly before staring up at him with wide eyes.
He chuckled and said quietly, "This is a rather nice restaurant so I'd keep the vulgar language to a minimum."
With a scowl I muttered, "It would be much easier if you didn't surprise me all the time."
I heard him chuckle more loudly before announcing to the hostess that we would like to be seated for our reservation. The woman behind the podium could hardly take her eyes off him as she led us to our table and while I tried to hide the sudden surge of jealousy that went through me, I was apparently unsuccessful.
He pulled my chair out for me with a smile, leaning down as I sat to say in my ear, "It's quite amusing when you're territorial."
"What are you talking about?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him before looking up at the hostess. She was noticeably standing closer to his side of the table, her eyes never leaving him even though I was staring her down.
He chuckled as he sat down opposite me and she quickly set down our menus, lingering near him. I felt another wave of jealousy wash over me as I straightened in my chair, watching her stare him with wide eyes.
"That is what I'm talking about," He said with a smirk, gesturing towards me.
He then looked up at her but said nothing, however her face suddenly contorted into a disgusted expression and she practically ran off. I watched her leave and then looked back at him confusedly, seeing him watching my amusedly.
"You can try to deny it, but don't think I didn't catch you glaring at her the entire time," He said, smiling at me.
"She wasn't even trying to hide her interest in you," I retorted before asking curiously, "What made her run off like that suddenly?"
