He sat in his threadbare chair in front of the small fire, fuming. This had been his chance! The chance to make something of himself! But she had to ruin it all. She had always disliked him, whispered stories to her mother and father about him. But they were lies! And this had been the ultimate snub. He wouldn't stand for it anymore.

He sat and brooded, and brooded some more about the injustice of his fate. Empty bottles of cheap alcohol surrounded him and a mangy dog whimpered quietly in the corner of the small room, its belly sunken and rumbling. Standing up, he swayed for a moment before making his way outside to relieve himself. As he stood staring into the deep dark forest, a plan began to worm its way into his brain. It would be easy. Almost too easy. Was she taunting him again?

The wagon wheels sounded loud in the stillness of the night a short while later, but no one was around to hear them. The mausoleum stood silhouetted in the moonlight, but he didn't dare bring the wagon too close. He didn't want to alert the lone guard who stood watch over her to his presence.

Parking the wagon nearby but outside of earshot, he tied off the horse and crept around the backside of the mausoleum. Taking a moment to listen, he sneered at the sound of light snoring.

All it took was a quick knife across the throat and he was in the clear. Quickly fetching the wagon with no fear of being caught, he backed it up to the entrance then went inside. Staring down at her, she was as beautiful as ever with her pale skin glowing in the moonlight and her dark hair haloed around her. He almost couldn't wait until it was spilled underneath him, but that would be for later, somewhere more comfortable.

Easily picking up the glass coffin, he placed it gently into the bed of the wagon and covered it with a thick layer of blankets. Not long after that he was back on the road headed to the rundown cabin in the woods that he called home.

The fairy watched the wagon drive off into the woods and nodded in satisfaction. The wheels of fate were turning, bringing the princess and her True Love ever closer to each other.
