You'll Always Keep Me

Prologue

"Liam!"

He was holding his head in his hands while hunched over his seat. He whispered prayers to himself hoping everything was okay, as he shook with terror. Niall quickly jogged up to him and knelt in front of his chair putting a hand on his friend's shoulder.

"It's going to be okay. Everything is alright. They're going to be okay, Liam.", Niall said repeatedly for a few moments. He let a few cusses escape his lip and he raked his hair with his fingers messily out of anxiety. Liam kept whispering 'why' to himself as Niall took the seat next to him, never removing his hand.

The tears were constantly falling from Liam's eye. Each one splashing the floor like rain drops on a rainy day. All he could wonder was how this could've happened to him. What did he do to deserve this? Why did it have to happen to them?

"Niall, what did I ever do?", Liam managed with his trembling lips. Niall ran his fingers through his brunette hair, clearly just as frustrated and worried as Liam, and let out a sigh before replying.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing, Liam. It's life... They never deserved this. It's just.. Wrong.. But everything is going to be okay. I promise."

Liam knew he was lying, and so did Niall. All that Niall ever wanted was for him and the boys to be happy, but he was never really certain with things. he just prayed that everything was okay. Liam wished he could make light of the situation the same way Niall did. Hell he always did, even when Sophie's water broke he was the most calm out of everyone.

Usually Liam would attempt to be calm, but he had a gut feeling that something was wrong. He could feel it starting from the pit of his stomach and creeping its way through his veins. It enveloped every muscle in his body making him tense and shake even more. The endless possibilities of what was going on in there racked his brain.

7:38pm the clock on the far wall read. It's been an hour and no one with a medical license had approached the two friends. Liam continued to shake while Niall comforted him to the best of his ability. Niall's clothes were still damp from running in the London rain. Beads of sweat were formed on Liam's forehead despite the t-shirt and track pants he had on.

10:53pm. A doctor approached the now group of five adult men. All of them stood up immediately when they spotted him making his way towards them. The doctor stood in front of Liam who was stiff next to Niall. With a clipboard in hand, the doctor articulated the type of injuries that were present. He also specified that he and his team did the best they could to save her. He then proceeded to answer one of Liam's prayers. Liam managed to calm down slightly as a sign of relief flashed across his eyes before the doctor put up a hand signaling that there was more news.

Liam tenses up next to Niall and looks at the doctor straight in the eye, preparing himself for the worst. The doctor wears an emotionless expression while looking at his papers in hand before telling Liam the news. With an apologetic tone he tells him what the police reports have concluded at the scene. With that the water bottle Liam has been holding, fell to the ground. Unable to comprehend what the doctor had just told him, Liam took a step back in order to balance himself. In complete shock, he stood still as if time had stopped and tied him to the ground.

After an extensive pause of silence Niall nodded his head at the doctor as a reply for his friend. The doctor dipped his apologetically before giving Liam's shoulder a small squeeze and walking away.

The rest of the boys were unsure of what to say. Louis stood frustrated with his fingers halfway through his hair and eyes filled with anger. Zayn's arms were crossed against his chest looking at the floor completely speechless. Harry shoved his hands into the pockets of his trousers while starring intently at his friend's stiff back. Liam felt empty and limp underneath Niall's hand that rested on his shoulder.

"She was okay. My little girl was okay. Rachel was okay... But, her mum isn't..", Liam thought in his head.

Danielle Peazer Payne was pronounced dead at the scene.
