December 30, 2020.
Cupid, the god of love, will finally come to grant my love.
I paid him to do this, I paid for his service.
"So it's him?" He asked.
After years of waiting, I finally can make him love me back.
"Yes, it's him," I proudly replied.
Cupid looked so calm and stoic. A master of this field, the art of making someone fall in love with another in a blink of an eye.
Suddenly, he smirked.
"Have you given this decision enough thought?" He asked.
"Yes. I paid you enough so you can't dismiss me."
"Oh no, I won't dismiss you. It's just ironic."
"What is?"
"Nothing."
He shrugged and readied his arrow. I looked at him aiming for his shoot flawlessly.
Then, I looked at Yvor, my love, who is busy reading his term papers at the benches.
"Do you know the basics?" Cupid.
"What are?"
-
"First, the target must not be in a relationship or the arrow will be void."
"Second, he must be ready to open up with you physically and mentally or the service will be nonsense."
"Lastly, he must not be in love with you as well because if he is, his feelings for you will be gone after the arrow is shot."
"The Golden Rule is no back-outs."
-
As if the time slowed down, I saw Cupid aimed for Yvor's heart. I looked at him praying that I'll be able to love him now with him seeing me as a woman and not just a classmate.
The gold arrow pinched through his soul leaving traces of gold specks around the place. Only Cupid and I could see it though.
Yvor looked dumbfounded and clueless as he roamed his eyes around the place. The time continued to run normally in my point of view.
My heart doubled in beat when our eyes locked in sight. Memories came rushing on my mind.
-
"Top 1- Yvor Keith Cortez"
"Top 2- Allaine Guiambao"
Once again, I failed to secure the top 1 for this year. I looked at my mom who is smiling at me.
"Good job, Alli! Mom is so proud of you," she said as if cheering me up even if I am not sad at all.
"Yeah, thanks mom."
I heard praises from the back. I looked at it seeing Yvor, happy, taking pictures with the teachers and our classmates. I smiled. He glows in my sight.
I have done my best, I am intelligent. I never studied for numbers but for knowledge.
I tried to top but I just can't beat Yvor. And that fact made me fall in love with him.
I find him really mysterious, dark, and unbeatable. He caught my attention in an instant. And today, I finally realized that I really am seeing him not just a foe but as a man.
-
"Allaine!" Izza, my seatmate, shouted at me through a whisper.
I slept in my class! Oh no!
