They were reaching their first checkpoint. It was just a small building, it almost looked like the ones they used in construction. As they entered the room it looked like a kitchen, minus the fridge. There were 3 of those fold-out tables.

Japan had brought a bag with him and placed it on the table.

"I didn't bring much variety of food because this was only going to be a day of traveling between you and me," Japan said.

He took out a few vacuum-sealed bags.

Greenland picked up one out of curiosity, dried mackerel.

"My favorite," Japan said in his usual cheerful tone.

"Mh," Greenland replied.

"Erm, anyways," Japan started, trying to pick up a conversation," This is some freeze dry meat, think kinda like jerky"

"And this," Japan picked up a package that had 'Green Beans' printed on it "well, it's just regular green beans, but they are dehydrated, so you'll have to add water."

Greenland could feel the awkwardness in the room drowning him.

"Sooooo," Greenland said trying to fill the gap of silence that was beginning to build.

Oh no, he didn't like the joke. He hates me now. Great job Greenland! You're already making enemies!

"Oh yeah, I do remember the same confusion from the other countries!" Japan giggled.

Greenland swears he could see those flowers you would see in anime surrounding him.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS GUY???

"Well," His tone going down to a deep, tired voice," I was that person before coming here"

Wait, did those bags just appear under his eyes?

"What happened to you then?" Greenland asked.

Japan Sighed.

"Back in my land, Life just seems drone on and on," He began," The cities are always moving, never a time to just, sit." Japan lamented.

"It all changed when we did our first expedition to this land, it was so peaceful, just the winds of the tundra, and an endless land of still whiteness." He reminisced.

"You know, I know that it may look like Tica is just an inconvenience to us, but he's more of a younger sibling to us, a found family you could say, but his abilities have caused both harm to himself and us, we just want to find a way to protect ...
