After lunch I walked down the halls with a couple other students, back to class. When I got there I saw Melon writing on the board, getting ready for the next class. I didn't know that he would be our full time teacher.
I walked up to him and quietly said, "Oi, what will you do after school?" He stopped writing and looked at me. "Did you want to hang out?" He asked, with his closed, smiling eyes.
"No, I just want to know something. So are you free?" I asked again. He thought for a moment and said, "Sure. Meet me outside the school gates at 3:30." I nodded and went back to my seat.
I stared out the window as usual and dazed off.
*time skip*
School hours were over and I finally could go. I quickly rushed into the dorm building to change into some normal clothes and get some stuff.
I threw out all my school textbooks and notebooks out my bag and put in my wallet, full of money, my phone and earphones stayed inside.
I took off my uniform and put on a black, plain t-shirt and some black jeans. I put a button up shirt over my t-shirt and left.
I had my backpack hang over my right shoulder as always. I checked my phone and say that it was already 3:27. I ran the moment I saw the time and arrived at the school gates.
Melon was already there, now wearing a black button up shirt and some black pants. I walked up to him and said, "So where should we go?" I asked.
"The same park from the other day." He offered. I nodded and followed him.
We arrived at the park quite fast. I sat down on one of the swings and started slowly swinging myself back and forth. "So what did you wanna talk about?" He asked. He was crouched down on the ground, in front of me.
"It's about hybrids." I simply said. He nodded and said, "What do you want to know about them?" I stopped swinging and said, "Everything about them. I want to know about their nature. What does it feel like being a hybrid? What are the struggles? I want to know about you." I blurted.
"Hybrids don't have a nice life. It really isn't. We are despised by society." He plainly stated, taking off his mask and opening his eyes.
"What do hybrids feel about it? I mean their parents? How do you guys handle the situation?" I asked.
"I don't know. I just hide the truth about myself. Not much here." I nodded and thought about how hard it must be on him.
"So what do you eat? Do you eat meat?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Whatever I get. It all tastes like sand." I nodded again and just looked down.
I looked up and saw Melon in front of me, his face a few inches away from mine. I didn't do anything and just froze in place. "That feeling again?" I asked. He nodded and I just stayed still.
"You should learn to deal with it." I coldly said. He didn't move and just kept staring at me. I let out a sigh and leaned over to his face and gave him a peck on his cheek.
"When I say, 'Learn to deal with it,' I don't mean go around stabbing yourself." He nodded and got up. "I'm hungry. Let's go get something." I nodded and got off the swing. We walked down the streets and into a small restaurant.
I ordered Kake Udon and Melon ordered Onigiri. The waitress took our orders and left. "So, what inspired you to be a criminal?" I quietly asked him trying to ease up the awkwardness.
"My mother." He simply said. That answer took me by surprise, but I didn't say anything.
"You know that people are looking out for me. What will you do if that happens?" He asked me.
I thought for a while and finally said, "Like I said before, I don't know. It depends."
"What depends?" He asked leaning in towards me. He rested his chin on his hand and gave me the look of curiosity. I looked down on the table and said, "If there's a chance of helping you, than I probably would. I could also help the police. You know that I could turn you in any time." I stated. He nodded and leaned in even more.
His body hovered over the table and leaned towards my ear. "Why don't you?" He asked in a husky tone. I jumped back and slightly pushed him off. "Why not?" I fired back. He closed his eyes and sat back down.
"Then go ahead." He fired back. I crossed my arms and let out a sigh. "If you really want me to do so, then tell me." I said, looking him straight in the eyes. He crossed his arms and said, "Go ahead."
I nodded as a small smirk escaped my lips and said, "Oh, you wait and see." None of us said a word after that and after a while the waitress brought us our order.
I broke the chopsticks and slammed my hands together and thanked for the food, and dove in. Melon picked up one of his Onirgiris and took a small bite out of it. "So," you started, "are you going to continue to teach at our school?" I asked. He let out a long 'hmmm' as he continued to chew on his food.
"I'm going to quit soon." He calmly stated, taking another bite. I nodded and dug back into my udon.
After half an hour we finished our food and paid for everything and left. We walked down the streets and headed back towards school.
None of us really made an effort to make a conversation, so most of the way back was silent.
