Chapter 1
"Don't make me!" Tony yelled, hoping I'd have sympathy.
"You see Tony, I have yet to get what I deserve from anyone, and you, you get everything you want. And honey, that's just not fair on my part," I said, holding back the tears that aren't supposed to come out. Out of all the people I've ever loved, Tony has been one of my favorites. "What happened to you Lana!!"
"Shh," I slowly whispered as a tear rolled down my cheek. "What's happening right now is out of my control." I slowly backed away from him tears streaming down my face as I did so. "Lana!" "I said goodbye, Tony." After that I left him alone with the ones he loves going against him because of me. He was scared. I wasn't sorry, but I could see the hurt in his eyes. He wanted me to stay but I couldn't. He knew I couldn't, he knew everything. He knew after this he'd never see me again, that he would never get to talk to me again. I got involved, too involved. There was nothing I could do about it though. I'm nothing but trouble. But everyone knows that trouble attracts the innocent.•Two days later Portland, Oregon•
It's time for me to start fresh, a new beginning, a new school, and a new victim.
A new school is always fun. I either get friends for looking cool, or just because I'm new.
Goals for today: look bad-ass, don't be too rude, and find a local gig to sing at.I start walking to the main office to get my schedule when I bump into someone, causing me to fall on my ass. "What the fuck man?" I ask. "Uh sorry," the person says, "I'm Luke. Are you new here?" the tall boy asks."Yeah, just moved here yesterday," I replied, looking around, then heading in the direction I was previously going. "Hey! You haven't told me your name!" Luke exclaims, running after me. "I don't think you deserve to know it." I smirk, continuing to walk to the main office. "I'll figure it out! I PROMISE!"
"MAYBE ONE DAY!" I yell back, turning to look at him, as he had stopped in the middle of the hall. After a few seconds I turn around and walk into the office to get my schedule."Hi, I'm new," I say calmly. "Then you must be Lana Waters?" the lady asks, while looking up from her computer. "That's me," I replied with a smile. "Here's your class schedule, but we didn't have time to find you a student to show you around b-" The lady was cut off. "I'll show her where her classes are," I hear Luke call. "Well thank you Mr. Hemmings." "It's no problem really." He smirked.
"Here you go, Waters."The warning bell rang, signaling that we should start moving. "I know a third of your name now." Luke smirked. I'n not really bothered, though. The only reason I didn't tell him my name is because I wanted him to come back. Creepy much? Possibly. He showed me around and by now we were both late to class. That was okay, though, because all we have to do is get a pass from the front office since they obviously know what we we're doing.
After joking about and him showing me where everything I truly need to know is, we just decided to talk for the rest of first period. "Luke I have a serious question," I say, looking him straight in the eye. "And it is?" he reply's, looking at me. "Do you know where I can book a gig?" You see, I might as well kill two birds with one stone. "Actually there's a band in town looking for a new lead singer. Do you sing?" Luke asks. I had a feeling this kid knows about music. I'm guessing he's a rocker. "Yeah, I do. When are they holding auditions?" Luke looked at his phone. "Right after school. If you want, I can take you 'cause I work where the auditions are held." I agree and tell him we would have to go get my guitar from my house first. "Yeah that's cool, and we should probably get to class. What lunch do you have?" Luke asks, looking towards my schedule. "You have my lunch so just meet me back here later. I can introduce you to my friends." Luke and I then part ways after we get our passes.
I walk into first period with only ten minutes left. Everyone looked at me as if I were an alien, but I honestly don't care. I walk up to the teacher- I think his name is Mr. Johns- but don't pay much attention to what he was saying. I didn't even listen to where I should sit, and just headed to the back of the class. I pulled out my notebook and started doodling. "Miss Waters," the teacher says, trying to gain my attention. "Do you mind introducing yourself?" I rolled my eyes as those words rolled out of Mr. Johns mouth. Shortly I just sucked it up and stood.
"My name is Lana Waters, I'm 17 years old and I just moved here." With that said, I sit down and continued to doodle. "Miss Waters, to pass my class you need to pay attention in my class, you do understand that right?" Mr. Johns keeps pushing. I looked him straight in the eye, now a little irritated. "Who said I wasn't paying attention?" I walked up to him and grabbed the marker out of his hand. "You see Mr. Johns, I've already been here." I smirked, walking closer to the white board. There was a very long equation that it seems the class was learning how to solve. Once I got in writing distance I started to solve the equation. Once I finished, I dropped the marker on the floor and walked back to my desk. Mr. Johns was looking at the board dumbfounded. "You actually got it right," he whispered. I could tell he was embarrassed, but I continue to sit quietly in the back.
You see, a lot can happen in just tenminutes. I proved to my class I was better than them, and that I was a bitch, so it looks like I'll be fine. My next couple periods were the same thing as always. 'Please introduce yourself', 'please pay attention', 'please','please', 'please', please shut the fuck, goddammit.
Sometimes I just wish to be alone, but you see that can never happen. I'm the one who makes others alone. If that made any sense at all. Maybe I should just give up on this shit, but you see, this runs through my family, in a weird and twisted way I guess...Maybe one day I'll have a daughter and all of this can stop. Maybe one day I can be the vulture and not the meat. For all I know, that will never happen.
