It was another busy weekend at the Baker household.
Jared, the head of the house, was currently reading the early morning papers whilst eating breakfast. His brows were furrowed in anger.
"Is there something wrong dear?" His wife, Eloise asked as she poured him another cup of coffee.
"Its nothing." He replied taking a sip. "Just frustrated with the news lately. Oh and this coffee's delicious by the way."
"Maybe if you put down that paper first so you can eat your breakfast properly?"
"If you say so m'lady." He replied, pretending to courtesy.
Eloise simply smiled. He and Jared had been married for six years. They met on a blind date set up by a common friend of theirs. It was awkward at first, but eventually, they fell in love. And now they have two children together.
Out of nowhere, Jared's phone started ringing.
"Aren't you going to take that? Might be another client." She asked.
"If you insist." He excused himself from the table as he answered his phone.
While Jared was taking his phone call, Eloise prepared the kids' breakfast. A simple meal of toast, eggs, and orange juice should be enough. She and Jared have two children, Megan aged 5 and Drew aged 3. Both have recently started schooling, with their teachers giving them high praise for being outstanding students. Clearly, they are their father's children, as Jared was known to be quite the genius when he was their age.
Eloise went to the kids' room to wake them up. Jared insisted on letting them sleep in different rooms, but Megan loves her little brother so much that she can't bear to sleep without him.
"Rise and shine my little angels." Their mom slowly whispered as she gently kissed their cheeks. Drew immediately woke up upon hearing her voice. He simply smiled at his mother.
"Where's daddy?" He asked.
"Daddy's on the phone. Go wake your sister so you can have breakfast together."
After waking up his sister, the trio went downstairs to eat breakfast. Jared had recently finished his phone call. His eyes beamed upon seeing his children.
"Daddy!" Drew screamed with delight as he ran into his dad's arms.
"Good morning dad." Megan greeted warmly.
Jared ruffled his daughter's hair in reply.
As the kids ate their breakfast, Jared pulled Eloise aside. He had a worried look on his face.
"Is there something wrong honey?"
"Laurie just passed away today."
"I'm so sorry. She was such a sweet woman."
"That she is. But that's where the real problem comes in. The twins said their father ended up losing their mother's ring to a gambling bet."
"You mean the family heirloom?"
Jared nodded.
"That ring has been in our family from generation to generation. As if her passing wasn't hard enough for the twins, that heirloom was the only item left to remember her by. I don't know how, but I'll try my best to recover it. It's the least I could do."
Eloise quickly understood the situation. It must be difficult for Jared to lose his only sister, even more so that he has to spend some time away from the kids."
"I'll go pack my things. Take care of the kids while I'm gone okay?"
"I love you. Good luck out there."
