"Any last words?"

"No, please. L-let's talk about this."

"Sorry. I'm not much of a talker."

"I'll do anything! Please!"

"I think its too late for that."

BANG.

I tried my best not to make a sound. I was terrified and frozen at the same time. Why was I such a curious cat? Why didn't I just head home like a normal person? Now I'm stuck in an alley after witnessing a murder unfold right before my very own eyes.

Lucky for me the alley was quite dim. But I wasn't taking any chances, I had to keep still. From what I've heard, the killer was some sort of mafia boss. He looked pretty young aswell too. As for the victim, apparently he owed him money, boss gets impatient and kills him on the spot.

Geez. Talk about cruelty.

I shake my head. Why am I still here? I need to get out of here fast, or else I might be his next target. Part of me wanted to run, while another  wanted to seek justice for the victim. I knew what I had to do. I had to call the cops.

"911 what's your emergency?"

"Yes hello I'd like to report a murder please."

And so I gave every detail, all the while keeping myself hidden. On the plus side, I hope I gave the victim some justice. May his soul rest in peace. He was silent for awhile. Perhaps he had already left? I was about to take a peek when my gut told me to sit tight.

Thats when I heard another man's voice.

"We're here boss."

"Good. You sure you weren't followed?"

"Affirmative. We took the quickest route to go here. Saw a few police cars patrolling the opposite direction but other than that there's nothing to worry about."

"We need to dispose of that body quickly."

"Yes boss."

"Lets get moving."

Before I knew it they had already left. I may not have seen his face but without a doubt he's someone you don't want to mess with. I can't stop thinking about the man he killed earlier. He was literally begging for his life. He had no fighting chance against him. Poor guy.

I checked my watch. The police won't be here 'til another 30 minutes. I couldn't just simply wait here and do nothing while the killer's on the loose. I need to get to the nearest station asap. Thankfully there was one, and it was just a 10 minute walk from where I was.

Upon arriving at the station I was greeted by a friendly officer.

"Hello dear. How can we help you?"

"Umm yes hello. I was the one who called earlier regarding about the murder near Denver Street. I was a little worried since I had to wait for 30 minutes for you guys to arrive."

"Ahhh. We apologize for the delay. My squad and I had to take care of a few things. If it helps you feel better, would you like to talk to our chief?"

"Yes please. Thank you."

I was feeling a little relieved. Finally. I feel a lot safer here.

That is, until I heard a familiar voice.

"Where is she?"

My heart started racing. Please tell me he just sounds like him. But it wasn't. It was really him. That same person who said earlier "any last words" to his victim. Who would've thought he was also a chief of police?

As he approached me I tried my best to act polite.

"Don't get on his bad side." I thought to myself.

"Good evening miss. Name's John O' Connor, and I'm the chief around this station."

"Good evening too sir. I'm Sarah."

We shook hands.

"Well Sarah, my officer told me you'd like to report a crime near...Denver street was it?"

My throat went dry. If I say something he'll knew I was watching him. On the other hand if I remain silent, he'll knew something's up.

"Umm was it Denver Street? I'm not really sure. It must've been Holland Street."

"Thats alright. Take your time. We want to make sure to get every detail right. You do want to catch those criminals, no?"

I nodded. Outside I was calm, on the inside I was screaming. He's the murderer for crying out loud!

"Its pretty hard to tell since it was dark. I think it happened between Denver and Holland street."

"Mm-hmm." He muttered as he was taking down notes.

Lets just hope that I convinced him. And I need to get out of here fast. The more I stay in here, the more I feel that my life is in danger.

"Well I think that would be all. Also its getting pretty late. Officer Miller, would you mind offering this young lady a ride home? We wouldn't want her parents to worry now would we?"

"Yes sir. Come on now miss, lets get you home."

It was a silent ride. Officer Miller kept asking me if I was okay, of course I had to say yes. I couldn't simply tell him that his chief was the one responsible for the murder. Honestly my mind feels like a mess. I badly needed a nap.

But I couldn't sleep.

Everytime I close my eyes, I see him. I see Chief O'Connor, gun in hand, ready to shoot his helpless victim. Maybe I should've helped, yet if I had I probably wouldn't even be here.

Maybe Officer Miller and the others were in on it too. I'm not even sure who to trust anymore.

I think its time I take matters into my own hands.

All I know is this: no bad deed goes unpunished.

Better watch your back chief, 'cause I'm coming for you.
