Chapter 3

Regretting my Accent-dent

Never in my previous life had I hated my goddamn accent this much.

Despite all the fanfics I read and wrote, learning after rebirth wasn't as easy as all those shitty literature (let's just assume them as such) made us belief.

Japanese was still hard for me and pronunciation took more effort than actually writing it.
The least I can say is that it wasn't for the lack of trying, and fortunately Obasan and Ojiisan noticed that too.

Regardless of that, as the years blended together, my problem with the language itself gradually decreased — and with time, I even started speaking Japanese quite effectively; though my accent was ever-present behind those pure Japanese words.

Fortunately enough, my foster family didn't care about it. And there weren't any actually neighbours I could care about either — we lived in some remote area at the foot of some hill, and it slightly worried me how this old couple lives completely on their own here.

And because of that, as soon as I grew up to a respectable age, I started helping those two with all the chores and duties — let it be farming, fishing or even laundry.

And their appreciation made working even more satisfactory.

What bothered me though, was the strange familiarity I felt when I went to the town down the valley with Obasan — there was this family who worked on compounding medicines and the daughters just... they just made my head ache.

And not in that annoying way or something; I hardly talked to them when I was there. It was just... they made some memory itch in the back of my mind and I just can't remember it for some very odd reason.

Are they... relevant?
Or was I really delusional?

Who knows.
All I could do for the while was try remembering it and help in the farm.
