~Your POV~
"Y/n... I..."
I bite my lip and look down, his hesitation tearing my heart in two. I don't know how else to react except to stand up from the couch and walk away. I grab my skateboard (one that Cooper got me so he could teach me how to ride) Sky doing the same out of instinct, and with my keys in hand we go out to my car.
"Is Cooper coming?" She asks, her eyes sparkling with her fondness for my soulmate. I just shake my head and start the car, which makes her frown. Now I've made two people I love upset. Nice going.
Sky recently found a boy that she befriended at the skate park, and though they don't share the same bumps and bruises that they get when they ride together, I think she really likes him, and I find it interesting. For so long, she was hung up on the idea of finding her soulmate, and yet when she found someone she knows for sure isn't who she is looking for, she still managed to feel a connection to him. I smile sadly and start riding.
"Y/n, come join us in our race!" my sister's voice calls out.
"Alright, what kind of race?" I question, skating over to them. I admire the look of pure admiration this boy gives my younger sister as she explains her idea about the race, using skating terminology that even I didn't understand.
"Here, I'll demonstrate," she says, before skating off to the "starting line". I walk over to the boy and he looks up at me.
"She really is something, your sister," he shakes his head, his cheeks tinted pink. "You know I really don't believe in all that soulmate crap but if the way things go is that the two soulmates really do share feelings, they won't feel each other's pain anymore... I dunno, I just... I sometimes wonder if that is why we never feel each other's pain." I widen my eyes and look at him for a moment.
"You really think so? You guys are so young," I comment, but he just shrugs and smiles.
"I think that if people are meant to be in each other's lives, it shouldn't matter how old they are." For an eleven year-old, this kid sure is wise.
"I see why my sister likes you. Be good to her please. I'm watching you," I glare playfully at him and he chuckles, nodding.
"You guys ready to race?!" Sky exclaims, and we nod, smiling as we meet her at the starting line.
~Cooper's POV~
As soon as Y/n walks out of the room, I realize I waited too late to try to find the words to answer his question. I curse myself but I let him go, knowing him well enough to know that he needs some time.
"Hey Cooper, what are you doing all alone?" Mrs. L/n questions, wielding a spray bottle in one hand and paper towels in the other. "Oh, I spilled my coffee on the floor," she clarifies.
"Ah," I nod in understanding. "Well, Y/n and I, we were talking, and well..."
"You realized you were soulmates but one of you didn't know how to explain knowing what that felt like?" she fills in the gap, and I gawk slightly.
Y-yeah, that's exactly what happened, actually. How did you-"
"My wife and I were the same way. We were right around your age, too. She and I were in a college for its music program. She danced, I played trumpet. I always wondered why my toes hurt so much but she does ballet, which makes a lot of sense. She always wondered why her fingers would cramp and her lips would feel numb, which was the effects of playing trumpet for hours. When we figured out we were soulmates, we didn't know how to handle the reality that we weren't straight, especially because she had a boyfriend at the time. But all it took was one real conversation and a confession of feelings to turn everything around. It didn't matter what other people thought. Once we knew we loved each other, there was nothing that would get in the way of that." She smiles, her gaze far away, and I stand up to hug her.
"Thank you, for sharing that story with me. I know what I have to do," I tell her, and she hugs me back as best she can with occupied hands.
"Go get him, tiger," she winks at me, and I nod, determination in my eyes as I set off to the skate park.
~
He looks so happy, racing with his sister and her new friend, and I can't help but watch how the wind sweeps his hair off his forehead and his smile radiates the entire park.
"Cooper!" Sky cheers when she sees me, and I wave to her. Y/n catches sight of me before glancing at the ground again, continuing to skate.
"Y/n I have to tell you something!" He gives the same look, going a bit faster. I sigh and prepare myself for the biggest thing I'll ever have to yell to get someone to hear it. "I love you!"
He looks at me with such surprise that he doesn't see the stray board in his path. He hits it and loses his balance, wiping out, and I flinch hard, prepared to feel the blunt force of concrete. But I don't feel anything.
Y/n sure as hell does, though. Fuck.
"Y/n!" The three of us rush over to him and he sits up, holding his head. He looks at me and sees me standing there unfazed. Confusion takes over his features.
"How is your head not in serious pain right now?" he inquires, and I smile a little.
"Soulmates no longer feel each other's pain once the love they feel for each other outweighs it. I confessed my love for you, and you have loved me for a long time too, I reckon. So, I didn't feel your collision with the ground." He wraps his arms around my neck and hugs me, to which I wrap mine around his torso and put my face in his neck.
"I love you so much," he mutters, and I finally feel complete. I pull back and fix his hair, making sure he isn't bleeding, before cupping his face in my hands.
"We're fucking soulmates, dude. We're soulmates, and we're meant to be!" I speak our reality aloud, and he kisses me.
Being soulmates might have hurt like hell, but damn was it worth the pain.
So I didn't really know where to go with this but I wanted a cute happy ending so I kinda went with this. I also felt like I should wrap this one up lol. Hope you guys liked it..! Love you all!
