"Come on, Luke!" I laughed as he tried to take my bag from me.

"Let me carry it." He whined and I put my bag on my other shoulder, away from him.

"It's not heavy. And we're like three meters away from the door." I declined his offer and walked in front of him, making him jog behind me to catch up.

"What's your mum gonna say about me staying over?" Luke asked again, concerned.

"If you ask me that once more I swear to God I'll punch you in your crotch." I couldn't keep a serious face and laughed mid my sentence.

"Lay, Lay, happy thoughts please, it's Christmas Eve!" Luke put his hands up, laughing as well.

We came to the door and I rang the bell, Luke nervously skipping from one leg to another.

I heard some muffled screaming and yelling and then the door opened, Luke and I not seeing anyone in front of us. Then I looked down at the curly, brown haired little girl watching us with a stuffed animal in her hands.

"Lewi!!" she screamed and ran behind me to hug Luke's legs.

"Chloe?" I asked and smiled, realizing there's not going to be just mum, Luke and I for Christmas.

"Hey, Chloe!" Luke laughed.

"Spin me around like you did last time!" Chloe yelled and Luke laughed, spinning her. Then he picked her up, Chloe hugging him around his neck.

"Chloe!!" I heard some distance yelling from inside the house and out came Anna.

"Anna!" I laughed and hugged her.

"Hey! You're already here, damn it! We wanted to surprise you!" Anna sighed, hugging me back.

"Chloe, I told you not to mess this up!" Anna said to Chloe but Chloe was too busy clinging onto Luke to listen to her.

"Hi, Ms. Ward." Luke offered Anna his hand but Anna waved him off.

"Anna." She corrected him and led us to the dining room. Luke carried Chloe and I closed the door behind him.

"Why am I suddenly so nervous?" Luke whispered when Anna already left the hallway. His face was pale and he really looked like he was about to panic.

"Luke, relax. You've already met everyone there." I calmed him down and he nodded, walking behind me.

But little did I know he actually did not know everyone there. In fact, he knew nobody except Anna and my mum. Apparently mum's invited all of our relatives to join us on pre Christmas dinner. As soon as we walked into the dining room all the heads snapped into Luke's and my direction and everyone laughed and happily greeted us, some of the people waving their hands in disappointment because they didn't manage to surprise us.

My mum ran up to me an hugged me.

"Mum, what is this?" I asked, confusedly smiling.

"Anna suggested a family dinner would be a nice way to catch up with everyone and everything." My mum smiled and shook hands with Luke.

She then jogged to the kitchen, probably going to get the meal ready.

I turned back to Luke. "I hope you don't mind all these people. I'm sorry, I didn't know." I made an apologetic smile and Luke shook his head.

"No, um-" he stuttered. "I guess that's better because I can't be the center of attention now." He gulped and fixed the hem of his shirt.

"Come on, let's sit." I took his free hand that wasn't holding Chloe and dragged him behind me, greeting some of my relatives on the way and introducing Luke to my uncle Mark.
