You might be poor, your shoes might be broken, but your mind is a palace.
-Frank McCourt

My alarm clock went off at 06:00 am. It is the day I'm permitted to return to school, my suspension is over. I leaned over and turned it off.

I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom. By the time I finished bathing, Fiona was already doing her makeup.

I decided to try something different today, so I wore a tank top and a short skirt, paired with a jacket and long socks.

It was going to be a boring day because I had only calculus with Fiona today. I only hoped I didn't run into Georgia or Sam. I had physics for my first period, the next subject was Biology, my favorite. I walked to the class alone since Fiona was not offering it.

I sat with Venus, a new student. The class was enjoyable because Professor Smith was a good teacher, and I liked him. Sam was in the class, and I tried not to look in his direction.

"What is the wobble hypothesis?" Professor Smith asked, looking round the class. I silently prayed that he would not call me until I heard my name. "Mia Jones, supply an answer." The whole class burst out laughing. I sighed and rose to my feet. "Wobble hypothesis accounts for the observed pattern of degeneracy in the third base of a codon.

According to this hypothesis, the third base can undergo a change with the corresponding first base in the anti-codon." I said. Everyone including Sam started clapping.

"Can you tell us its importance?" he asked again. "The importance of wobble and degeneracy of the genetic code is that cells do not have to synthesize a different tRNA for each of the 61 sense codons. A simple example is that only two different tRNA anti-codons are needed to recognize four different glycine codons." I answered. The class burst into another round of applause, and I smiled gratefully. "I want to have a word with you when you're free." Professor Smith said, smiling. I nodded and smiled back at him.

I was walking to Fiona's locker after school when I tripped. I almost fell to the ground but a strong pair of arms gripped me. I looked up to see Sam and his friends laughing.

"Hey, hottie, how was your suspension?" He said, smirking at me. "I just wanted to tell you that you look sexy today." He said, not releasing my hand. "I didn't know you were smart, by the way, and be careful with Smith and make sure he's not planning to get into your pants." "Why don't you think before opening your big mouth." I said. "I have a thing for feisty girls." He answered, winking at me. I shot him a glare, and his grip on my hand loosened. I hissed and walked away.

Sam

I saw her coming, and I decided to play with her a bit. I stretched out my legs, and she tripped. I quickly held her up to prevent her from falling.

"Hey, hottie, how was your suspension?" I said, smirking at her. I don't know why I was being a jerk to her. "I just wanted to tell you that you look sexy today." I said, trying to lighten the mood. Holding her hand did something to me. I don't know what it is, but I've never felt that way "I didn't know you were smart, by the way." I said again. Oh No! I was being a jerk again. "Be careful with Smith and make sure he's not planning to get into your pants." I told her.

"Why don't you think before opening your big mouth?" She said. It was her first reply, and I was taken aback by it. "I have a thing for feisty girls." I said, winking at her. I may or may not have said that on impulse.

She shot me a glare, and my grip on her hand loosened. She hissed and walked away.
