Cory was glad to be back in his classroom. He was glad that the triangle was over and his daughter was happy, even though he wasn't thrilled about her having a serious boyfriend. In all honesty, he wanted Lucas to choose Maya so he wouldn't have to worry about his little girl dating until she was out of high school, preferably even out of college.
"Does anyone know the answer?" Cory asked turning to see Farkle and Smackle with their hands up. "Yes, I know that you two know, but let's give someone else a chance to answer."
Farkle slowly lowered his hand. "But they won't." He shrugged. "No one else in class will answer the question."
Cory sighed. "Well, let's give someone else a chance to at least try. Maya?"
"Out of everyone, you ask Maya?" Smackle asked in confusion.
"Smackle is right, out of everyone in this classroom Maya would be the least likely to answer the question."
"I want her to at least try." Cory gave Maya a look. "Got a guess Maya?" Maya looked down and didn't say anything. Cory chuckled. "Got some sass or a sarcastic comment at least?" Maya put her hand up to her mouth and rested her lips against her thumb. "Is there a reason you're not talking? I don't think I've heard you talk all day actually." Cory chuckled nervously.
Riley turned around in her seat. "Maya? Are you feeling okay?"
"Do you have a sore throat?" Zay asked looking from Maya to Lucas. "Well I got nothing." He shrugged.
Lucas frowned. "Maya? Are you mad about something?" He asked, hoping it wasn't because of him and what happened at the ski lodge. He looked over at Riley and wondered if he upset Maya by choosing her, but Maya told him to choose her so she couldn't be hurt because he did, could she..
"Maya, I'm afraid I have to act like your teacher right now. If you don't talk I'll have to send you to the office."
Maya stared down at her desk. She gulped and moved her hand slightly across her desk until it was palm up.
"Maya, you need to participate in class. At least try to answer the question." Cory said in a soft voice.
Maya finally looked up from her desk. She stared up at Cory without saying a word. He waited for her to speak, but she just stood up and shook her head.
Cory sighed and pointed to the door. "Go to the office. I'm sorry, but I can't tolerate this disrespectful attitude."
Maya nodded gathering her stuff, then she walked out of his classroom to go to the front office down the stairs.
Cory pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "What is going on with that kid? Riley, has she said anything to you?" He asked his daughter.
Riley frowned and shook her head. "Not since the ski lodge, no." Riley looked at her boyfriend. "Lucas?"
He shook his head. "No, the last time we spoke was at the ski lodge."
Cory frowned. "Has Maya talked to anyone since we came home from the ski lodge?" He addressed his class.
Smackle looked around the classroom and didn't see anyone else raise their hand so she slowly raised hers. "Yes."
Everyone turned to look at Smackle, especially her friends and Cory.
"What did she say?" Farkle asked.
Smackle pursed her lips. "She said "I wonder how long it would take for anyone to notice if I just stopped talking", I didn't think she was serious so I didn't say anything to anyone."
