"Kagome she's awake!!" You blinked, the light above your head temporarily blinding you. When your vision became clear, Sango, Rin and Inuyasha were hovering over you.

"W-What happened?" you asked sitting up slowly. It took a while to realize that Shippo was also in the room. "We're so glad you're okay. We thought for sure you were a goner when we saw all that blood." The little fox demon ran into your chest for a hug, and you hugged him back with a small smile. You rubbed his head. "I'm sorry if I scared you."

Inuyasha had the biggest frown on his face. He smacked you over the head.

"YOU IDIOT WHAT WERE YOU THINKING GOING OUT ALONE!!"

"H-HEY I'M STILL INJURED IDIOT!!" The both of you started arguing back and forth, and Kagome walked in, relief crossing her face. "Thank goodness."

"We were so worried. When it got dark and you didn't come back Inuyasha freaked out." He blushed at Kagome's words.

"I did not!!" you grinned. Inuyasha was always looking out for you. He was a lot like an older brother. Even though he'd never admit it outright.

"How did I get back?" you were sure you were dead. That demon left a nasty wound. You didn't remember much after that.

"Sesshomaru-sama brought you!" Rin shouted happily.

"Sesshomaru did..." That's right, he was there. But why would he even help you. The both of you weren't even friends. It was so weird. "I guess he isn't as heartless as I thought."

"Wait my sword!!" you turned searching for it.

"Don't worry, he brought it back too. Geez you almost died and all you're thinking about is a stupid sword. " Inuyasha was clearly still upset after what happened.

"I'm sorry, I promise the next time I go out I'll let you know." He folded his arms, turning his head stubbornly.

"You better."

It took a couple weeks for the wound to fully heal, but your stomach would still ache every now and then. Inuyasha kept a close eye on you, just to make sure you didn't try to go off again. You weren't stupid, you never strayed far from them. Even when you went out to practise your sword, it was only five minutes out of the village. There was a gorgeous spot with a waterfall that you discovered. You spent most of your afternoons there, using the trees to perfect your sword technique. You kept swiping the tree with your blade, but your mind was elsewhere.

"You won't fare very well in a real battle. You're opponents won't just stand by and let you strike them down." you jumped, spinning around.

"C-Can't you appear like a normal person!" He was always sneaking up on you. He just looked at you with that condescending gaze, and it irked you more. Why did Sesshomaru walk around like he was the baddest thing out there. He really did give himself too much credit. Then again, he did save your life, so maybe you should have been a little more grateful.

"Why did he save me.." every since you got back, that's all you were wondering. The both of you hardly ever had a conversation that didn't end with you yelling and him just walking away all smug. So why go out of his way to help you. How did he even know you were in danger?

"Why help me?" you finally asked the question that had been bothering you for the last few weeks.

"You were dying." he spoke flatly.

"That's not an answer." you pushed.

"You are a friend of my half brother. I was merely avoiding the nuisance that would arise from your death." Well, that was comforting. Even when he did something nice he was still a dick about it. "Whatever." as angry as he made you, you sort of hoped he cared enough about you to save you.

You caught yourself, eyes widened. "What the hell am I saying, I don't give a crap if he cares about me!" you wanted to slap yourself for even entertaining the thought. He was looking your way, studying the quick changes on your face.

"Like my father, I appear to have a soft spot for humans." When his father had given his life to protect the woman he loved and his newborn son, Sesshomaru had thought him weak. Yet, he'd done the same. Protecting a human. It wasn't just Rin, but also you. His perspective had changed greatly over the years.

"Be more careful when you venture out." Sesshomaru turned his back to you, leaving, his long silver locks swaying with every movement.

Those were the first words he said to you that didn't sound like he was looking down on you.

"I'd hate to have to help you again. "

Ah, there it was.

A pulse rose on your forehead.

"YEAH WELL NEXT TIME JUST LET ME DIE AT LEAST THEN I WON'T HAVE TO SEE YOUR STUPID OBNOXIOUS FACE!!!!"

You didn't see it, but Sesshomaru wore a tiny smile as he left. He'd grown used to your yells. It was almost comforting now. He almost looked forward to it.
