Never Compare

Part 5

*At the start of the investigation*

"Hotch why are they coming? You know they'll get distracted." Derek questions sternly.
Aaron sighs and nods. "That's why I'm keeping them apart. (Y/n) will stay with you in the field and Reid will be with JJ."
Derek sighs and walks away.
Rossi looks at Aaron. "You two have been hanging out a lot since the kidnapping."
"It's been a great help. Jack misses spending time with her."
Rossi nods in understanding.

*In the plane*

(Y/n) giggles softly. "No I don't. You are though."
Aaron laughs and shakes his head. "(Y/n) you do snore. But it's a cute snore."
The said woman pouts. "No snoring is cute."
Aaron smiles and goes back to his iPad.
Everyone looks at the couple and tries to figure them out.
"How long have they been friends?" Rossi asks.
"She said he snuck into her backyard one night to get away from his father." JJ answers.
"Oh yeah. She was like 12 right? Imagine a hot guy in his tweenties climbing over your fence." Emily teases.
"I know what she went through was scary but why all of a sudden? They never hungout this much before." Rossi wonders.
Derek agrees then looks at Reid. "Did something happen pretty boy?"
Reid look around then shakes his head. "He made us play house. To be honest I don't know why she was so dramatic. I don't think she needed so much time off."
The others look at each other then back at the genius. None of them knew how to respond. They hadn't watched the footage.
"Do you think they like each other?" JJ asks.
"No." Derek shoots down immediately. "He's too much of a workaholic to be in another relationship, especially after what happened to Haley."
"Plus (Y/n) doesn't strike me as his type." Rossi responds.
"Apparently she's my type." Reid comments, looking out the window.
The lighted atmosphere had now turned awkward again.
Although none of them realized Reid had technically just confessed his feelings.
After that there's was silence.
Everyone goes back to their files.

*At the station*

Aaron talks to the officer in charge once they arrive.
Rossi follows behind.
"Is it true this case could be connected to that case a few months ago?" The officer asks.
"There is a possibility yes. Although it would be wise to also take into consideration that this a completely different case." Aaron answers as he looks around.
"Yes of course. We have you set up in here." The short man informs, opening the door to a conference room.
"Thank you." Rossi piped up and walks in after Aaron.
Aaron looks at the map on the chalkboard.
"This guy is all over the map." Rossi comments.

When Morgan and (Y/n) come back he could see her sad expression.
The drink in her hand didn't go unnoticed either.
Her stomach must of have been bothering her again. He thinks to himself.
Upon hearing more about the town's opinion he wondered if they were gonna be any help now.
The older man took notice of the genius looking at his girlfriend.
Spencer tried to fake coolness in order to fool the others.
On the inside he was angry with her, for moving on so quickly. He felt regret for not all the things they couldn't do together now. Angry with himself for not telling JJ his feelings, and his continued feelings for her.

*Two days later*
The team was surprised no one made a kidnapping attempt.
Aaron found this exhausting.
This case is obviously connected to the other one, but he didn't want to tell anyone.
Especially since the police wanted to hand (Y/n) over.
Garcia informed him that the other unsub was willing to talk.
Aaron found that was only a last resort.
While the others were out looking for clues with the parents, (Y/n) and Aaron talked more about the week she spent with the children.
She told him there was no evidence of anyone else being involved.
"He must've talked about someone else but only to himself. Neither Spencer or I heard anything."
Aaron nods in understanding.

*The next day*

Aaron and Rossi leave to follow a lead they found.
The rest of the team were doing their own thing while (Y/n) stayed at the station.
Aaron forced her to due to the fact she puked again and her back began to hurt.
Her legs were also a bit wobbly.
The tall man ordered that she eat and rest.

Rossi sits in the passenger seat, looking out the window. "Are you gonna tell me what's going on between you and (Y/n)?"
"There's nothing going on." Hotch responds with his usual monotone voice.
"Then why are you two spending so much more time together?"
"She went through a traumatic experience. I'm her closest friend so she went to me for comfort."
"She could've stayed with Emily for a couple days. (Y/n)'s been staying with you for months, hasn't she?"
Aaron looks at David. "She just comes over a few times a week to see Jack and have dinner."
"Ah. So you two aren't...?"
One look from Aaron and David knew to drop it.
Of course the older man couldn't tell if he was right or not.
Hotch's expression was too stern.

When the teams get back to the station they all noticed (Y/n) was missing.
"Where is Agent (y/l/n)?" Aaron asks the head officer.
"She left about uh..." he pauses to check his watch. "About 15 minutes after you guys left. She was staring at the map mumbling to herself. She left in a hurry but didn't tell anyone where she was going."
"Are you talking about that girl?" One of the earlier cops questions.
"Yeah. Do you know anything Daryl?"
"I heard her say something about going to find the guy. Kinda like trading her for the kids."
Aaron looks at the team. His gaze turns to Reid and the said boy is staring at the map.
"Why now? Did she find a clue? Why go alone?"
"Are you wondering why she went alone?" Rossi asks.
"Why would she go anyways? She could die, right?" Daryl asks.
"It's unlikely. She is the center of his fantasy. She is his mother and he will do anything to make her happy." Emily responds.
Aaron looks around for Reid but finds him gone. He sighs and turns back to the team. "Where did Reid go?"
Everyone looks around.
"He was just here." JJ replies.
Aaron jogs out of the station and looks around.
No Reid.
"Dammit." The tall man whispers. He goes back inside.
"What now?" Emily asks looking at her friend.
"Now we hurry before we loose them both."
