Just before Parker and Emily left for their first classes, Parker wrote down the password to his laptop and left it for Scarlett to use freely throughout the day. When they left, she found a film to put on, but she got bored with that after about half an hour. She left it running and paced the room. She riffled through Parker's chest of drawers and found a jumper to slip on, she explored every crease and crevice of his bedroom until she heard the door open.
"Scarlett?" Parker's head popped round the door. He entered the room and saw her legs from underneath the bed. "What are you doing?" He grabbed her legs and pulled her out from under the bed.
"I was exploring." She stated as she hopped up.
"Is that my jumper?" He pointed to the jumper she was wearing. It was a black hoodie with the words "Happy Go Lucky" on the right breast. It suited her.
"Yeah, it got a bit chilly. Is that ok?" She pulled the sleeves over her hands and crossed her arms to emphasise her point. Parker just sighed and nodded. "So... how was maths?"
"Yeah, it was alright. I got some homework to add to my big pile of things to do, so that's fun." He pulled out a yellow sheet with about 50 equations on it.
Scarlett grabbed the sheet. "Great. Now I have something to do for the next hour." Parker couldn't help but laugh at the way her face lit up with a wide smile as she looked at the homework.
"Well, ok. In the top drawer of my desk is some spare paper. I can't have you writing on my actual homework sheet." Parker looked at his watch. "Shoot, I'm gonna be late. I've got to go. See you in an hour!" And just like that, he was out the door.
Scarlett seated herself at the desk. She opened the top drawer and got a piece of paper out before grabbing a pen out of Parker's High School Musical mug and... Wait. High School Musical? Scarlett made a mental note to ask him about that later. She re-adjusted her gaze back to the homework. Algebra. Easy. She'd have this done in no time.
And as expected, it was done in no time. In 20 minutes, Scarlett had finished the homework. She sat back on the desk chair satisfied with her work. And then... she was bored again. How did people do this? How did people just sit around?
Scarlett was starting to regret leaving the Workshop. At least she had plenty of space to run around there. True, they had killed her father and experimented on her and tested her in the hardest conditions, but they also had a 25-acre woodland and a climbing wall and a lake. The facilities were great. The people not so much. No, she was glad she left. She now had freedom. If you could call being locked in a room 'freedom'.
Ranting killed another 10 minutes of her time. She looked at Parker's desk and suddenly sat up. She scoured through it, looking for bit and bobs. Elastic bands. Pencils. Bullclips. Tape.
She attached the pencils, elastic bands, tape and bull clip together with a pen lid. Then she drew a target on a piece of paper and stuck it to Parker's dressing gown which she placed on the bedroom door. Next, she took all the pens out of their plastic containers and went and sat on the bed. Her film had finished now, so she put the next one on and started to shoot the pens at the target with her newly made stationary crossbow.
Scarlett lost track of time. She shot another pen, but it didn't hit its target. The door had opened and it hit Parker square in the stomach and exploded over him. Scarlett jumped up from the bed. "Parker? Are you ok?" She took his hand and gently pulled him into the room before closing the door behind him.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He said, standing up straight. "What was that?" Parker removed his hand from his stomach and saw that his hand was blue. He looked down at his shirt, tie and blazer and his eyes went wide.
"Parker. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. I just got so bore..."
"Scar. It's ok. I can change it. You just have something to do for the next hour while I'm in science." He laughed. "What were you doing?"
Scarlett looked up, and in a timid voice, she said: "I made a crossbow and I was shooting it at the target on your dressing gown on the door."
"Riiight... Why on the dressing gown?"
"To make sure it didn't make much noise."
"Smart." Parker took his tie and blazer off before chucking them on the floor and then started unbuttoning his shirt.
"I'll get you another one," Scarlett said as she raced to the wardrobe and retrieved a shirt for Parker to put on.
"Thanks," Parker said. He had taken his shirt off now and stood in the middle of the room waiting for Scarlett.
She turned around after shutting the wardrobe doors and froze. She had never seen a boy her age before, let alone a half-naked boy with abs chiselled by di Vinci. She had no idea what to do. Luckily, Parker broke the silence.
"You're right. It is cold in here." He shivered slightly while trying to hold back a smirk.
"Right, sorry." Scarlett quickly handed him his shirt and picked up the dirty clothes to take to the bathroom.
"Hey. You don't need to do that now. I have a 20-minute break."
