"Caramel Machiato?" I stepped forward and grabbed my favorite drink off the counter, Stiring it as I walked across the Starbucks and taking a sip as I stepped out into the busy streets of Sydney. Wandering down the sidewalks trying desperately to stay awake. I stopped at a bench and took a seat, looking out at the water and allowing the breeze to blow through my hair, feeling proud that I had finally managed to make my dreams a reality...
I awoke to the insanely annoying and overplayed chorus to "Happy" blaring through the rather large speakers of my alarm clock. I groaned and rolled over, reaching to shut the music off and grab my phone and glasses off my bedside table. After several feeble attempts, I unlocked my phone to see like thirty reminders obviously programmed by my mother. Including but not limited to the following "don't forget to work out today" " healthy choices for a healty life" " dont touch the chocloate cake" " you too can work to not be fat" "Skinny is the goal" "don't wear your glasses to the dinner tonight, make a good impression!" Ugh! Oh look here comes another one "dont forget to go pick up the Clifford's house guest from RDU" Wow, quite eager to get rid of me aren't we mother? Its not like I hadn't known for weeks I'd be the one to pick the kid up. Whatever, I'll be the perfect little angel I'm supposed to be, I just won't ever be perfect enough. I rubbed my eyes and groaned as I rolled out of bed.
With today being the start of the first full week of summer vacation, I showered, and threw on cutoffs, a tank top, and boots. I threw my still wet hair up into a balarina bun out of habit and walked towards the kitchen to get some food. Grabbing my wristlet and slipping my phone in my back pocket on the way.
Just as I reached my arm into pantry to grab a protein bar I was stopped by my mother's sickly sweet voice. "Mildred, honey don't you think you should lay off the poptarts and go for an apple instead?" I rolled my eyes, of course she'd assume I would eat the far too sweet pastry that held firm to my brother's sweet tooth. I plastered a smile on my face and finished getting a bar and closed the pantry door. "Its a long drive to the airport and plus I have to wait for the kid to land and get through customs, so I'm going to eat something a little more substancial." With that I turned and headed out of the house. "Don't you want to loose that weight you gained this spring?" I held back what I really wanted to say and instead responded with "Yes ma'am". I continued walking, waving my breakfast behind me as I walked out the door. I crossed the garage to my jeep and set my stuff down inside, then assuming the kid wouldn't mind a little fresh air unziped and removed all the windows leaving nothing but the roll cage. It had taken me forever to convince my daddy that I wouldn't flip it and so far I hadn't, except that one time, but we don't talk about that and daddy doesn't know. I climbed in and cranked her up. Listening to the purr of the well tuned engine. As I waited for the car to warm up, I tried my best to cool down. I mean its not like I gained that much weight, it was two pounds and I grew an inch. I'm sorry I'm not six foot and ninty pounds. I'm 5'6" and weigh a hundred fifteen pounds even, with a nice sized ass and a pair of triple D's hanging from my chest. Ugh, whatever, I sighed while I shot off a text to my boyfriend. ME: wake up you lazy bum! Dustin: Hey baby. Why you up so early? Me:Its eight, this is sleeping in. And besides I have to run an errand for Karen. Dustin:Okay. Well, drive safe and I'll see you later. I love you. I didn't text back but I put my phone on do not disturb and plugged it into the aux chord. I turned Panic! All the way up and pulled out of the garage, past the barns and fields and pastures on our forever long path to the road. Waving to daddy when I passed him. Eventually, I pulled into the short term lot at the airport and pulled my almost dry hair down and finger combed the crazy bun-induced curls and checked my face in the rear view. I stepped down onto the asphalt and walked inside.
........
Okay, wow. I've been promising a first chapter for a while now and like I've had it written for a while I just haven't been satisfied. So here was my final attempt at my first chapter. Did ya like it?
