TW: Major character death, homophobia, loved one dying, abusive father, loved ones in danger. Let me know if I missed any!

Hamilton was sitting under a tree while John sat beside him. Hamilton forgot what he had said to make John smile, but he sure did look good laughing. They were holding hands under the tree, when suddenly John seemed to remember something and jumped up suddenly.

"Oh shit! I forgot I have to be home by dark, and the sun is setting! Come on Alex, I gotta get home!"

Alex jumped up after John, and they started walking home, still hand in hand.

As John walked up his front steps, Alex started heading home, he knew John's dad would not be happy if he stuck around.

Alex walked home with pep in his step, very happy after spending his Saturday with his boyfriend under their favorite tree. The one they went to everyday after school, and just sat and talked. Sometimes they just sat their watching the world around them, sometimes they just did homework. Sometimes, when they were ripe, they would pick apples from the tree and eat them. They both loved the time they spent under that tree.

Unfortunately, before Alex even got home, John called. That always meant something was wrong.

"Alex, you've got to come quick, Dad's gone crazy!" John said in a hurried voice, clearly hyperventilating.

"Slow down, take a deep breath, I'm on my way back. What's he doing?"

"He's loading a gun." A gun? Mr. Laurens got upset at any mention of anything remotely "gay," but he had never pulled a gun. "I don't know what he's doing right now, but he's got it and he's out of the room, he's headed toward Martha's room. Hurry up please!" That explains why he's so hushed, but also very much rushed.

"I'm running John, can you get Martha out?"

"I can't, he'll kill me. He's coming this way! ...Oh no." He sounded more panicked, like he was about to die.

"What? What's happening? Talk to me please." Alex noted that this phone call was now being recorded.

"He's got Martha in his grip and-" Laurens was cut off.

"You've got someone on the phone, boy?"

"N-no sir, I was j-just talking to myself!"

"Don't you lie to me. I know you don't do that."

"I-I'm sorry, I swear I'll hang-" Alexander could hear 2 gunshots on the other end of the line.

"Laurens? John? Are you there? Please tell me the gun wasn't pointed at you!"

"I'm h-here Alex." He sounded as if he were in pain. "He just shot me, please hurry."

If it were possible, Alex ran even faster than before while dialing 911, arriving at the house not long after.

Alex slammed the door open and immediately looked for John. He was still on the line with the 911 dispatcher.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"My boyfriend, he- he just got shot by his dad. He lives at (Insert address here, I got no idea.) I don't know where he got shot, I was on the phone with him when it happened. I'm headed there now. Please send an ambulance."

"Okay sir, please head away from the crime scene. I have 2 police cars and an ambulance on the way."

"My boyfriend just got shot, I'm not staying away. I have to help."
