You watched as the mangata danced to the rhythm of the waves. The stars were shone brightly in the water's reflection. You stood on a slightly raised rock, admiring the view. Palms swayed behind and around you. This tropical scenery was just the break you needed. You lived near it, but never visited the beach. You were always busy. The breeze sent a chill to your little nose and ears, reminding you how much you'd missed it here. You came alone tonight, as your other half was sleeping peacefully in the house, snuggled up in the soft, comfy blankets. Your sweater was holding you close and your pants heated your legs, but your teeth still chattered as your face was uncovered. The view was really serene. You softly whispered to the ocean out of nostalgia, remembering how it was your best friend as a child. Venting to the sea was calming in some way. It was like another person. It waved at you every time you came. It made noise in response to your voice and words.
You stepped down from the rock, slipping off your shoes and rolling up your pants. You walked closer to the edge of the tide and let the cold liquid brush over your feet, chilling you to the bone. You shivered at the sudden sensation, but your feet slowly started to numb underneath the cool blanket of salty water. You wiggled your toes to try and feel something, but you couldn't. It was weirdly enjoyable. You lifted your face up and opened your arms wide, letting the waves splash at your shins and the wind blow your hair back. Your nose and ears were red, along with your blushy cheeks, but you couldn't feel it. You really couldn't feel anything anymore. It felt so free. You felt light as a feather. You felt happy. Your stress melted away. You hadn't felt this way in so long. It was euphoric. You giggled, letting your head and arms down, walking away from the longing sea. You rolled down your pants and slipped back on your shoes, walking away from the beach.
With one last glance, you crossed the street and made it to a sidewalk that led right to home. You silently entered, once again slipping off your shoes in anticipation. You quietly tip-toed to your shared bedroom with your significant other calmly sleeping, their chest rising and falling rhythmically. You slid under the blankets and felt am arm wrap around you from behind. You smiled softly to yourself and closed your eyes, drifting away to dreamland.
