"Why were you looking at Maverick that way earlier?" Slider asked.
"That's his callsign?" Ice responded in question as they walked into the bar.
Slider nodded, taking off his sunglasses. He spotted a girl,
"Never mind, we can talk about this later." Slider said, as he made his way over to the chick he was eyeing.
Iceman sighed. He wished he could talk to someone about the way he felt, but he couldn't.
Now, an hour and about 6 shots later, Iceman was approached by a girl. He was really disinterested, but he kept the conversation going. She was nice enough, but, he just simply wasn't into her.
He eventually got out of the conversation, looking around for Slider. He spotted him. And he got a little bit nervous when he saw who Slider was talking with. He made his way over regardless. He noticed an old 'friend' of sorts.. that's a story for another time.
"Mother Goose, how's it goin'?" Iceman smiled, shaking hands with Goose.
"It's going good!" Goose smiled.
Iceman nodded, smile still on his face. Then Goose had another thought,
"Tom, Pete Mitchell. Pete, Tom Kazansky." Goose introduced the two pilots.
Iceman and Maverick made eye contact, not breaking it once as they shook hands.
"Congratulations on Top Gun." Iceman said.
"Thank you." Maverick replied, a small smile tugging it's way onto his lips.
"Sorry to hear about Cougar. We were like brothers in flight school. He was a good man." Iceman remembered the day he lost all respect for Cougar. But, again, that's a complicated story for another day.
"He still is a good man." Maverick clearly hadn't been made aware of the incident.
"Yeah, that's what I meant." Iceman covered up his boiling anger about the subject as he continued to keep eye contact with Maverick.
"Thought so." Maverick half mumbled in return, taking a small swig from his bottle.
"Say, do you need any help?" Iceman decided competitive was the way to go.
"With what?" Maverick asked, taking his bottle down from his lips.
Iceman smirked, "Have you figured it out yet?"
Maverick seemed to play dumb a bit, "What's that?"
With his smirk still on his face, he glanced down for a second, "Who's the best pilot."
He immediately locked eyes with him again.
"No, I think I can figure that one out on my own." Maverick was truly the cocky hothead Iceman guessed that he was.
"I heard that about you." Iceman's smirk dropped, "You like to work alone."
Maverick looked away after a few seconds. He blushed and he had a mix of a smile and a smirk on his lips. Iceman couldn't keep his eyes off Maverick.
Slider and Goose had a bit more of a competitive conversation while Iceman downed some shots, not taking his eyes off of Maverick for more than a few seconds.
"Guess you guys are lucky and famous, huh?" Slider remarked, downing another shot.
"No, you mean notorious." Iceman laughed slightly as he corrected his R.I.O.
Slider nodded and headed off to find another girl to chase.
"I'll see you later." Iceman said, a cocky smile on his face as he looked at Maverick one last time.
"You can count on it." Maverick replied, barely audible to anyone by Iceman and Goose.
Iceman knew this was going to be fun.
