It had been almost three hours since Bruce had told you "I'll be up to bed in just a minute", a lie you had heard many times in the past and had never once believed. The Doctor had a bad habit of dawdling in the lab, trying to finish anything and everything during the night despite knowing that is an impossible task.

You, on the other hand, liked to sleep, especially since you spent most of your time travelling between time zones and suffering from the worst case of jet lag known to man. Being a member of SHIELD meant having absolutely no sleep, so when you had a chance to catch a few hours, you took it, and with no hesitation.

Unlike Natasha, you weren't an agent, at least not anymore. A shame really, shooting HYDRA agents was a lot more fun then your job of current times. Not that your job was now boring, it just included spending way too much time with Tony in a lab or performing surgery on the team more often than not.

You had been a Surgeon before a SHIELD agent, performing surgeries as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic. That was years ago, though, and since then you had change profession ever so slightly.

The best part about your current job is the fact you get to spend more time with Bruce than before, usually because you have the ability to persuade him to follow you everywhere and anywhere. Except to bed.

Ice seems to blanket the tiled floor and chill your feet as you walk down the hall and into the far too bright elevator. Jarvis doesn't even need to be told where to go, the AI already knows, how couldn't he, this trip had been done more than a hundred times.

A ding sounds before the doors open, letting you out of the box playing AC/DC at a much lower volume than usual. You sigh, brush loose strands out hair away from your face. Pressing a hand to your mouth, stifling your yawn, you push open the door to the lab dedicated to whatever catastrophe Bruce was creating.

He doesn't even notice you enter, his head buried deep into the information on the screens. You can't help but smile to yourself, the innocent look on his face enough to make anyone, especially you, turn into a giant sap. Bruce pushes his glasses up his nose, mumbles something to himself.

"Just once I'd like to go to bed with you next to me." You mumble into his shoulder, wrapping your arms around his waist. Bruce turns his head to the side, meeting your tired eyes with his own.

"Why aren't you asleep?" Bruce frowns, turns in your arms so that he can wrap his around you instead. Sighing, you rest your head against his chest, fiddle with the cotton of his purple shirt.

You peer up through your lashes, smiling when you find Bruce to already be looking down at you with that stupid little smirk. "I told you, I'd like it if you were there. A minute, hmm?" Bruce sheepishly smiles, looks behind him at the screens displaying more information than any normal mind could decipher.

"How long have I been?"

"You're coming up for hour four."

Bruce sighs, reaches behind him to click of the computers and machinery, most of which wasn't even being used. He holds out a hand which you gladly take, and allow him to drag you out of the lab and up through the tower.

"You should've found me earlier." Bruce says when the pair of you are finally under the sheets of you shared bed which was moved from Bruce's room to yours after an incident that destroyed his bedroom. Namely, Hulk.

"You should've put yourself to bed, you're not a child, Bruce." He drapes an arm over your waist, pulling you against his chest. Unlike most nights, his unbearable body heat isn't pushed away, instead you snuggle closer, trying to escape the cold. "I like this."

Bruce smiles, presses a kiss to your shoulder before burying his head into the crook of your neck. "Me too."
