Emma's POV
"You may know fugitive by its other name 'cops and robbers'. If you haven't heard of either, I'll explain." Says the maze runner casts manager. "A couple people in our group will be the cops and they have to catch the fugitives. If you get caught, you're out. Got It?" There's a murmur of consent from the room "good. Who wants to be the cops?" Julie and I put up our hands, so does Kaya. "Okay, girls against boys. Before we start though, everyone must wear these," he holds up a hat with a camera strapped to it. Everyone takes one out of a big box at the back of the room and sit back down. "Any questions?"
Ki Hong Lee raises his hand and says "so, we can go anywhere in the hotel?"
"Yes. Just not in the guests rooms." I look at Julie in excitement and she returns the look. "Fugitives, you have 30 seconds to get away...GO!" All the boys just look at each other as if for confirmation. "Go. Like now. You've wasted 15 seconds already. At that the boys all jump up and run out of the room.
"Okay do you guys have a strategy or like a preference or something?" Asks Kaya in an English accent.
"Uh not really-"says Julie but I cut her off:
"let's make them go on he elevator then someone runs to the second floor, the other to the third and then it doesn't matter where the elevator stops, one of us will always be at the exit."
"Brilliant! But who's doing what?"
"Depends who's the fastest?" I say.
"Not me. I'm pretty slow." Says Julie.
"Then you chase them into the elevator, Kaya you sprint to the second floor, I'll go to the third." I say, taking position as the leader.
"I like you." Kaya says with a smile.
"Okay let's go!" Says Julie and we all run out the door.
Running around the lobby I recognize a few boys from the table, Ki Hong Lee and Thomas Sangster. Julie runs to them and, like a farm dog, herds them towards the elevators. Being the 'smart' boys hey are they push the "up" button and quickly close the doors to the elevator.
Kaya and I sprint up the stairs we were waiting beside. Kaya gets to the second floor and runs to the elevator doors. I keep on running until I get to the top floor and wait. I can faintly hear the yells from below me and smirk. The boys tried to get out of the elevator and saw Kaya.
Thinking they were all caught, I turn and start to walk slowly for the stairwell but just as I'm about to descend I hear the "ding" of the elevator doors opening. I whip around just in time to see Thomas's head pop out of the elevator and look around. He spots me and his eyes grow wide. I sprint after him and he runs down the hall.
I'm actually a pretty fast runner. During my last year of cross country I came in 11th in cities. But Thomas is fast too, and sneaky. He can make it seem like he's going one way but goes the other. He goes to turn left but veers right instead. Expecting his trick this time, I leap into his way. He tries to stop but ends up tripping me and we both end up falling. Soon I find myself lying on my stomach, on top of Thomas Brodie Sangster.
