The next day, I enter the school gates, terrified.
What if what happened yesterday with Oikawa was a one-time thing?
What if he completely ignores me today?
I check my timetable while standing next to my locker. I have study periods until break. That's fine, I can deal with that. I shyly turn around, observing those surrounding me. Unfortunately, Oikawa's nowhere to be seen.
Sighing, I walk upstairs, my mind replaying the scenes with Oikawa from yesterday. He said he'd teach me how to play volleyball today after school, I hope he hasn't forgotten.
I enter the library and scan the room. Still no Oikawa. I should stop constantly thinking about him.
No matter how many times I try to focus on my Computing Science work from yesterday, that same face pops up in my mind.
It's distracting me, he's the distracting me. Look, even when I was trying to sleep the other day, guess who I was having made-up conversations with?
Oikawa.
As I begin to write notes in my jotter, the bell rings.
My entire notebook is blank. For 1hr 20 minutes, I couldn't write a single word. Not. One.
"Oh well," I sigh, while gently closing the book, "I should talk to him about meeting up today."
As I leave the library I hear a certain laugh, a laugh I'm oddly familiar with.
Oikawa?!
I look over and I see him. He's laughing with this girl.
My heart drops.
My breathing's out of control.
What? What was happening?
"Haha, I never knew you played volleyball too!" He says to the girl.
I've recognised her before, she's in my Chemistry class. She's super sociable, can make friends within minutes. I wouldn't say she's popular but well-known. Well-known for being such a 'nice' person.
She tried to talk to me once last year, she noticed how I was so alone. Her name's Stephanie. She was so nice... maybe too nice. It seemed fake. When one of her best friends appeared, she'd completely cancel me out as if I were a stranger to her. At first, I thought it was a one-time thing, but it constantly happened and I eventually gave up being friends with her.
I continue listening to their conversation. Oikawa reaches for his phone, asking Stephanie for her phone number.
What is going on?
Once Stephanie finishes telling Oikawa her phone number, she waves him goodbye and runs off. I'm staring blankly at Oikawa as he waves her goodbye, looks back at his phone and smiles with satisfaction.
"Timid-chan?" He notices me.
Frick.
He starts walking over to me, "Are you ready for us meeting up after-school?"
"Yeah," I say under my breath. I had packed my gym bag with extra sports clothes, just in case Oikawa remembered.
"Great! I have some news to share, y'know Stephanie right?"
No.
Uh no.
Is going to cancel the trip? Is he going out with Stephanie instead? Was I nothing to Oikawa but another random friend of his?
My eyes start to water, "Y-yeah? Why?"
"Well, I was talking to her today in Engineering Science. We decided to walk around for a while after class. Did you know she plays volleyball? She's a setter, just like me! Anyway, we were having a conversation about volleyball and she said she trains at the local sports centre with her club. I asked her about open-session practices and she said her club offers open-sessions every other day and she volunteers. I said you and I were considering attending one of the open-sessions today and she suggested that we all meet up and go together. I wanted to ask you if you were ok with it before saying yes to Stephanie but she said you guys were already good friends and you wouldn't mind."
Since when was I good friends with Stephanie?
"Sure. I'm okay with it." I say, fake smiling.
"Are you sure?" Oikawa tilts his head in confusion, "I don't think you are."
"It's fine," I say, slightly aggressive. "How about we walk around the campus?"
Oikawa and I walk around the front quad in silence. I'm too busy thinking about Stephanie.
As we walk, we're constantly being stopped by Oikawa's friends. It's only been 2 days and he's already this popular?
Of course, they don't talk to me. I end up staring at the ground and avoiding eye-contact for the entire conversations.
Break's over and it's time for Maths.
Oikawa and I enter the room together and sit down on the seats we sat in yesterday.
This time, I concentrate on what the teacher is saying and write down my notes prestigiously. I turn over to Oikawa and he's doing the same thing. Once the teacher finishes explaining the topic, we answer some questions displayed on the whiteboard. Each question, Oikawa and I do together. To my surprise, he's really smart. He goes by every question logically. It's like I'm learning from him, it's like he's making Maths fun.
The next two periods before lunch are study periods. Oikawa and I stay in the library, revising Maths. We sit in a little corner. Anything I'm unsure about, Oikawa takes the time to explain it to me thoroughly, making sure I grasp a good understanding of the topic... He's such a good friend.
We end up mastering the topic and to celebrate, I urge him to download Flappy Golf on his phone. We play it for a while.
"No!" He whines as I win the 5th round, "You've won all the rounds so far, that means I have no chance in winning!"
(I'll explain the rules in Flappy Golf multiplayer. It's basically like Flappy Bird but you're trying to enter a golf hole. Whoever enters the hole first, wins. They're 9 rounds overall, whoever wins the majority of rounds is the true winner.)
"It's because you're too slow!" I laugh.
Within five minutes, I end up winning all the rounds.
"Ah, so frustrating!" Oikawa laughs. He looks over at me, "So, what are you planning to do for lunch?"
"I need to revise my Computing Science work. I didn't manage to get much done this morning." I say.
"Alright," He gets up, "Well I'm going out for lunch with a couple of my friends from Physics. See ya after school."
I wave him goodbye, "See ya."

I walk to the back gate and see Oikawa and Stephanie having a lively conversation.
I swear I'm not jealous.
"Timid-chan!" Oikawa walks over to me, "You're finally here, yay!"
"Y/N!" Stephanie comes to hug me. I don't hug her back, she's a snake. After six months of ignoring me, now I'm suddenly her friend?
"The next bus arrives in 15 minutes," She tells us, "The bus stop's on Harriet Street so we'll have to go through the mini-mall to get there."
"Ok!" Oikawa hums.
As we walked in the mall, I hold Oikawa's arm gently. The fact there's a lot of people in the mall is making me feel a bit nauseous but I can handle it.
On Oikawa's left side, Stephanie is beside him. They're talking about God knows what, I don't want to hear it.
By the time we reach the bus stop, I still haven't said anything. I've remained utterly silent while Oikawa and Stephanie have been chatting.
"Y/N," Stephanie says all of a sudden.
I shiver as she calls my name.
"Talk with us. You're being too quiet." She says.
"Um," Oikawa laughs nervously, "Timid-chan will speak when she wants. Hey, isn't that our bus?"
"I believe so!" Stephanie holds Oikawa's hand, "Let's go!"
