Lauren took a deep breath before she linked her arm in her father's. He smiled down at her and placed his hand on top of hers.
"Ready?" He asked.
Lauren nodded with a smile and looked to where her bridesmaids and Joey's groomsmen were reaching the front of the aisle. On cue, the father-daughter duo began their walk down the aisle.
Joey turned around and grinned when he saw Lauren walking towards him. She looked beautiful. She always looked beautiful to Joey, but today just hit differently. Maybe it was the sparkle in her eye, the veil that fell over her shoulders, framing her face, or the strapless white wedding dress that looked perfect on her. Joey smiled and wiped the tears that had fallen down his face at the sight of his beautiful bride. 9 years they'd been together. 9 wonderful years and they were marrying the loves of their lives. Their best friends.
Joey watched as Lauren's father kissed her cheek before passing her hand to Joey and taking his seat. Lauren looked up at her almost husband and smiled. She looked him up and down, admiring how good he looked in a suit.
"You look gorgeous," Joey whispered, earning a little chuckle from Lauren.
"You look handsome," she whispered back.
They walked the final steps of the aisle together before the ceremony began.
"Lauren, the day we first met, I knew you were someone special. We became friends very quickly, and soon after that, I realised I had much deeper feelings for you. We've been together nine years now, and each and every day has been the best day of my life. Every morning I wake up and I fall in love with you all over again. You're so funny, talented, and very pretty. You introduced me to a whole new level of love for dogs I never knew I had, and without you, I never would have had Diane, and I can't imagine my life without her. And I certainly can't imagine my life without you. You keep me going, teach me to be a better person, and inspire me in so many ways. I promise to always be by your side, on good days and bad, to love you unconditionally, and to make you as happy as I possibly can. It has been amazing to be your boyfriend for the last nine years, and I can't wait to be your husband for the rest of our lives," Joey spoke, his hands shaking as he held Lauren's.
Lauren smiled up at him with tears in her eyes. She took a steadying breath before reading her vows to the one man she loves more than anything.
"Joey, you have been my best friend for 13 years. I can't remember a time when we weren't friends, and all I can think is how lucky I am to have you. You are the nicest person I've ever met, you never fail to make me laugh, and you allow me to be me. Since we got together, I have always felt I belonged with you, unconditionally. I have never felt this way before, and it's all down to you. You've been the best boyfriend, the best fiancé, and the best father to Diane and all our fosters. I am the lucky one. I could go on for hours about the things you've done for me, the way you make me feel, but I just want you to know how grateful I am for everything. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for you cheering me on and supporting me through everything. I promise to always support you the way you have supported me, to help you through the bad times, and to smile with you through the good times, and to love you with all my heart. I love you so much, and I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together as husband and wife," Lauren said, her voice breaking several times with emotion.
The pair giggled as they dried their eyes, Lauren being careful not to smudge her makeup. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. All their friends and family had watched the couple grow, helped them through difficult patches, and loved the way Joey and Lauren loved each other. Hearing them say their vows on their wedding day was an emotional day for all.
"I give you this ring as a gift that lasts forever. Know that I am always with you, behind you, and by your side," Joey said with a shaky voice as he slipped the wedding hand onto Lauren's left ring finger.
Lauren glanced down at her new ring and smiled up at Joey. "You are the love of my life. This ring is a token of my love for you. I am yours, today and forever," Lauren said as she placed the ring onto Joey's hand.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Lauren barely had time to process the words before Joey pulled her in for a kiss. They wrapped their arms around each other and held on tightly.
"I love you, JoJo," Lauren whispered to her husband.
"I love you too, Lo," he said before the pair walked back down the aisle together, this time, as husband and wife.
Hours later, at the ceremony, Joey and Lauren stood dancing together in the middle of the dance floor. They'd spent all evening together, wrapped in each other's arms and stealing kisses when they could.
At the change of song, Lauren and Joey both looked at each other.
"Now I've had the time of my life. No, I never felt like this before. Yes I swear, it's the truth and I owe it all to you. Cause I've had the time of my life and I owe it all to you," they sing along to the words without breaking eye contact.
"I mean it, Jay. I have never felt more loved than I do when I'm with you. I have had the time of my life, and I owe it all to you," Lauren said, gazing up into her husbands eyes.
Joey smiled down at her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "I've had the time of my life, too," he whispered before the two shared another kiss, reaffirming their love for one another.
