Lauren and Joey pulled away from the kiss they had just shared and gazed into each other's eyes. Lauren took a steadying breath as Joey began to lean in again, but she rested her hand against his chest to stop him.
"Lo?" Joey questioned, a small frown on his face.
Lauren sighed, "we can't do this, JoJo. You live in LA, and I live in Chicago. The distance is too much. I'm sorry."
Joey released Lauren's waist from his grip and she let her arms fall from where they had been tangled in his hair. She gave him a weak smile, one he couldn't return, and turned on her heel, leaving Joey standing alone outside the tour bus.
Lauren thought back to that moment as she was lying in bed awake one morning. It was the first time she was seeing Joey after they'd kissed and she'd left him. She knew it wasn't fair on him, she knew Joey's feelings towards her. She was thankful Joey didn't know how she really felt about him, but somewhere deep down, she wished he did.
Lauren looked in the mirror as she got herself ready for the day. Her lack of sleep was rather obvious, due to the dark circles that rested under her eyes. Sighing, she put on some makeup in an attempt to make herself look a little bit more awake.
The drive to the rehearsal venue didn't take long, which Lauren supposed was one of the benefits of LeakyCon being in Chicago this year. She parked up, grabbed her bag and headed into the hotel to meet up with her friends and fellow cast mates.
The walk to the rehearsal room was full of anxiety. Lauren had to remind herself to breathe as the thoughts of seeing Joey again overtook her mind. She took one final deep breath before pushing open the door of the room and stepping inside.
Lauren greeted her friends with a smile, her eyes gazing around the room as she took in who had already arrived. Nick, Matt, Clark and AJ were over by the piano, flicking through the script and the music. Brian and Meredith stood together in the far corner. Denise, Lily, Jaime, Britney and Devin were stood together as well, looking at something Jaime was showing them on her phone.
But Lauren's eyes rested on the one person who was sat alone. He was looking down at his phone, but when he looked up, he smiled at her. She returned the smile and walked over, hoping he wouldn't mind her joining him.
"Hey Lo," Joey said with a smile.
"Hey JoJo," Lauren replied as she took her jacket off and placed it with her bag.
Joey stood up and pulled the petite girl into a hug. "How are you?"
"I'm not too bad thanks," Lauren smiled. "How are you?"
"I'm good, I'm looking forward to the show," Joey replied. "It's going to be an intense couple of days of rehearsal though."
Lauren couldn't help but agree. It was going to be a busy few days, but she certainly was looking forward to it. Even though not everyone was here yet, there was a distinct buzz in the air as everyone caught up with each other, sharing stories and filling everyone in on the last few months of their lives.
The two days of rehearsals passed in the blink of an eye. The show itself was here, and there was a nervous energy amongst the cast. It was the first time they'd ever done something like this, and seeing as it was the final instalment in the Very Potter trilogy, they all wanted to do it justice.
Lauren was stood backstage as the show continued. It was going well so far, and, if she was being honest, she was sad it was the last time she would play Draco. She was pulled from her thoughts as a familiar voice could be heard singing.
"It's not fair, it's not fair. I didn't know, I wasn't there. It's not fair, it's not fair. Seeing you lying there. I wasn't strong enough to save you from the evil stuff. I wasn't smart like you to do what you would do. I know I'm not a leading man, I know I'm not a star, but I know what makes me special is what I feel in my heart," Joey sung.
Lauren took a step further into the wings so she could watch Joey without the audience seeing her. She smiled as she watched him perform. It was almost like she was seeing him in a different light. She really did want to be with him. Screw the 2,000 mile distance. They were going to make this work. If Joey still wanted to, that was.
"Am I the strongest? No, I'm not. Am I the smartest? No, I'm not. Am I the hottest? No, I'm not. But am I the greatest? No, I'm not!" Joey sung, causing cheers to erupt from the audience.
Lauren found herself agreeing to every comment he said. He was the smartest, the greatest, and, in her opinion, the hottest. And she just wanted to be by his side through everything.
That night, after the show, Lauren hung around with the cast for a short while before rushing home to get changed. She tried on multiple outfits before an item shoved in the back of her drawer caught her eye. She smiled as she pulled it out and pulled it over her head. She threw on some shorts and got back in her car, driving back to the hotel.
Lauren raced up to Joey's room and knocked on the door before she had the chance to stop herself. This was what she wanted, and she knew it.
"Lauren! I've been looking for you," Joey said as he answered the door. "Wait, why are you in my shirt?"
Lauren looked down, her cheeks turning pink. She had kept one of his shirts when she and Julia had found it when they were unpacking. She claimed to Julia she forgot to give it back, but Lauren had deliberately kept it to remind her of him. But it was only now that she knew she had kept it because she loved him.
"You left it on the bus after the tour, and I didn't give it back," Lauren said, chancing a look up at Joey.
Joey smiled, "that doesn't answer the question of why you're wearing it now."
Lauren sighed. She didn't know what to tell him. "Can I come in?"
Joey stepped aside and allowed her into his hotel room.
"Remember the last night of Apocalyptour? When we kissed outside the bus and I told you we couldn't be together because of the distance?" Lauren asked, her back to Joey.
"How could I forget?" Joey asked softly.
Lauren took a deep breath, "you are the smartest. You are the greatest. You're definitely the hottest. You're my hero, and I'd like you to be the one that takes me home." She knew how cheesy she sounded, but she didn't care. She couldn't think of another way to tell Joey she was head over heels in love with him.
Joey smiled as he took a step closer to Lauren, resting his hand on her shoulder. She turned around and looked up at him. They both had tears in their eyes.
"Are you sure?" Joey asked, his hands moving to her waist as hers went up around his neck.
Lauren didn't answer. Instead, she reached up and placed a kiss to his lips. It was soft and tentative at first. She pulled away and looked into his eyes for a second before he pulled her back into him and kissed her again. His hands moved under the hem of her shirt, resting on the bare skin of her back.
"As much as I love seeing you in my shirt, I think you'd look better out of it," Joey whispered against her lips.
With a laugh, Lauren let Joey pull the shirt over her head before their lips reconnected, each of them so happy to be reunited together again.
