Alice
"Allie Kat! Are you ready yet?" Nina asked as she and Cass touched up their makeup.
"So? How do I look?" I asked as I walked down the stairs in my graduation dress."You look beautiful, Kat." Cass grinned before we got into the car. Once we got to the school, everyone was dressed to the nines. No one was in a bad mood tonight, and that was a first.
"Alice, you look stunning." Nick said as I turned towards him. I've had a crush on Nick since the 3rd grade, but for some reason, tonight, I didn't feel that way towards him.
"Thanks, Nick. You look really nice too." I smiled softly before turning on my heel and walking back towards Cass as she gushed over how beautiful Nora, my other friend, looked. She wasn't wrong. Mari looked absolutely gorgeous. He long black hair was done in large movie star curls and her dress was a stunning dark red that shimmered under the lights, making her dark brown eyes pop.
"She's right." I added as I walked over to join them.
"You look stunning." Mari gaped as I smiled.
"It was my mum's graduation dress. I wanted to at least wear it once." I smiled brightly.
"Did you just walk away from Nick?" Cass asked me as I nodded. "I thought you liked him?"
"I did, but tonight, it's different somehow." I shrugged, and thankfully, before she could say anything else, it was time to get on the bus.
"Class! Time to get onto the bus! It's nearly time!" The teacher said as we all got into the buses and listened to country music all the way down, which Cass, Nina, and I sang, along with quite a few others.
We finally got to Portland Arena, they are letting us use their auditorium for the night, we were given our green gowns along with our caps, just before we had to walk through the balloons and streamers, the song from our 8th grade graduation, Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts, starts to play.
We all sat down and I tucked my speech into my pocket.
"Welcome students, parents, friends, family, and faculty to the Massabesic High School, class of 2020 graduation." The principal started. "Four years ago they were the new freshmen, and now they'll stand tall as newly graduated adults, and go about their lives with purpose and accomplishments on their backs. Now, please help me welcome class president, Nadia Katro, and Valedictorian, Felicia Homes." He added as they both went on stage and I fiddled in my seat as they went through their speeches. I was nervous... and the reason, because last night they forgot my name. Oh, how embarrassing that would be if they did it again.
"And last but not least, Cassandra Styles." He said as my face dropped. They did it again. My face flamed with embarrassment as she walked up on stage and shook their hands before whispering into the principal's ear. His eyes popped open as he shook her hand and rushed over to the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen! I am terribly sorry, but we have one last lady to receive her diploma tonight. Miss Alice Raine." He called as I took a deep breath and stood up just to walk over as snickers came from my classmates.
"I'm so sorry, my dear." He apologized with a grimace on his face.
"It's fine." I said as I shook the man's hand and took my diploma, biting my lip, willing myself not to cry from how embarrassed I am.
"You show them, Allie!" A voice shouted as my head whipped around to meet the bright green eyes of my boss's daughter. A soft sob quickly escaped my lips as I saw my friend's families, and my boss's family, cheering me on. I smiled brightly as I held up my diploma and they went wild. It made me so happy to know that they support me all the way.
"Your speech?" The principal asked as I stepped over to the podium and stood tall.
"You know, up until this moment, I have been dreading this speech. The speech I wrote? Yeah, nothing sounded right so this paper is incredibly blank. Nothing sounded right, but now I have all the words in the world. But, not as a speech, as a song. I wrote this while I was gone for that while. And here it is, it's called A Million Dreams." I said as Cass handed me my acoustic guitar.
Once I finished, I was met with applause.
"We did it." I said as we all threw our caps into the air and balloons cascaded over us with hoots, whistles, and screams of joy fluttered through the air.
"Congratulations, Class of 2020." The principal said as I walked off the stage and Cass and Nina hugged me.
"Why didn't you tell me that you were writing that!?" Cass asked as she punched my shoulder.
"Ow. And I wanted it to be a surprise." I smiled as I rubbed my shoulder. The families all came over to hug and congratulate their children, so they were pulled away as I was tackled by all my siblings.
"Careful! Don't break her now." Nina's mom said as she helped me to my feet and hugged me. "I'm so proud of you, darling." She said as tears came to her eyes.
"Thank you, Miss Roberts." I smiled softly.
"You girls did so well, I'm going to pay for the rest of your trip."
"Along with me." Tom continued.
"And us." The mothers, whose children I've babysat, added.
"I don't understand?" I asked.
"You've all worked so hard for this trip, and have helped out so much, we just thought you'd like it better if it lasted a whole month instead of a week." Cass's mom explained.
"Thank you, all!" We exclaimed as we hugged everyone before saying our goodnights and heading home."Sorry I can't talk too much tonight, King, but I'll fill you in tomorrow night..." I yawned. "Sweet dreams, King." I said before I flopped onto my bed, quickly falling fast asleep.
