THE COMING WEEKS PASSING MUCH SLOWER THAN CALLIOPE HAD ANTICIPATED AND THE WARMER WEATHER MAKING THE YOUNG GIRL REMEMBER HER FIRST SEASON. She looked into the mirror as Evelyn helped her get into her gown for the Ramsbury ball, both her and Daphne were getting dressed in the same dressing room. As Calliope was the oldest, she had more options in how she wished to be dressed, but Violet had control over Daphne's.

"Are you sure you want to go with the silver heels with your dress." Evelyn asked, as she looked up at her friend questionably.

"They are my most comfortable pair of shoes and besides no one will see them anyway with the length of my dress." Calliope hummed as she slipped into her shoes before her mother could pass judgment. She looked back to Eloise who was sprawled across an armchair, reading. "You know that if you want to read my books all you have to do is ask, El?"

"But were is the fun in that." Eloise responded with a teasing smile on her lips.

"The fun is that I don't sneak into your room to take the books you have stolen from my personal collection." Calliope said with a serious expression on her face.

"Will the two of you not start arguing?" Daphne muttered.

"El and I are not you and El, Daphne." Calliope said as she attempted to loosen her corset that was starting to cut into her ability to breathe. "We actually like each other."

"Eloise and I like each other." Daphne exclaimed looking at her sister with horror.

"Here is a lesson from your older sister, like and love do not mean the same thing." Calliope said gently as she sent a pleading look to Evelyn who started to loosen the laces at the back of her dress.

"Will it be the rubies or the pearls, miss?" Rose entered the room as she carried a few pairs of earrings for Daphne to choose from.

"The pearls, of course." Violet mused, ready to take the jewelry into her hands.

"Mama, perhaps the rubies would better catch the eye of even more new suitors?" Daphne questioned innocently whilst her hands glided over the elegant jewelry. "If I am not to put all my eggs in one basket, I must ..."

Calliope raised her eyebrow with an incredulous expression on her features. "Collect more eggs."

"If I must." Daphne said simply before turning back to their mother.

"The duke truly has put your head in a spin." Eloise explained from her position as she rest her book closed in her lap.

"More like Lord Berbrooke must spin far away." Calliope mused as Evelyn gently ushered the young girl to sit in front of the vanity to pull her brunette hair up into. As Evelyn was just about to finished she pricked the young girls head when the doors suddenly opened and their family's housekeeper entered with a shocked expression.
