Sorting the medicinal cabinet kept Ismene's hands busy, while Tarin talked about his newest studies in school. With the way that his mind works, it would not be long before he exceeded the studies required to qualify for the aptitude tests. Ismene made sure that every container was properly placed with its label facing out so that it could be easily identified later.

"Have you completed reading the books that I provided?" Tarin is an avid reader, believing that there is no such thing as too much information.

"Why, yes I have. The books have already been placed back in the library, and do not fret. They have been cataloged exactly as you showed me to do."

"Are there any others that you would like to borrow?" Ismene picked up the cloth and began cleaning the instruments that Aunt Marsi used on her patient before placing them back in their spots.

"I would like to learn about gene splicing and genetic mutations, but I could not find any materials on the subjects in your library?" Tarin looked up at Ismene with his big brown eyes, begging that she help to sate his curiosity.

"You know as well as I do, that the King controls who studies genetic manipulation. I am not able to provide you with any materials about that subject." While academics are vital in Atlantis, King Alistair keeps a very tight grasp on who gets to study genetic manipulation and anyone who does has to work for him only. It is believed to be an experimental science, and every project has to be approved beforehand.

"Well according to transmat guidelines, I am unable to travel on my own so it's not like I can just go ask the King myself."

Arriving at the palace, Tarin and Ismene stepped off of the transmat and walked to the palace guard. The guard leaned against the archway while picking his fingernails with a small dagger. Ismene reached out her hand

and tapped her metal rings against the nearest column so as not to catch the guard by surprise. Upon hearing the approach, the guard straightened up and resheath his blade.

"We are here to request an audience with the King." Tarin stretched to his tallest height of 46 inches and looked the guard in the eyes. Tarin's attempt at dignity and respect came across as cute and childlike, making the guard smile.

"What exactly would you be requesting of the King today?" The guard bent down to address Tarin directly.

"I would like to request that the King allow me to advance my academics, to include genetic manipulation." Taken aback, the guard stood with his mouth open. After waiting a few seconds, Tarin continued, "May we proceed to the queue?"

"Of course. Right, this way! King Alistair is currently with his advisor, but will be out to receive you two soon."

The room was round with a high vaulted ceiling, marbled columns, and gold plated floors. The only seats in the entire room were the thrones for the King and his future Queen. Tarin paced around the room and touched every column, while Ismene stood in the center and awaited the entrance of the King. Before Tarin could make a second round, King Alistair walked in accompanied by his advisor.
