**Present Day**
Samantha's POV
His words ring in my ear.
"Who are you?"
I walk outside without answering, tears threatening to spill from my eyes.
"Samantha. What happened dear?" uncle asks.
"He asked me who I am." I say, letting the tears out. "He-he doesn't remember me." I cry.
"No. He will remember you. He loves you." aunty assures me.
I shake my head no. "Aunty, can I stay at your house as a maid or something?" I ask my mother-in-law.
"What!? No!" she exclaims.
"Aunty, please. I can't live without Chay. It will kill me if I have to." I cry.
"Ok ok. Fine. But you don't do any work. understand?"
I nod.
We get into the car. I take out my phone, looking at the screensaver. It's a college of Chay's and my pictures.
We have a big picture frame of these pictures in the living room of our house as well.
I take a deep breath and change the screensaver just incase Chay gets my phone without my knowledge and sees the pictures, which would require a lot of explanation due to his current condition.
I close my eyes and a tear escapes my eyelids.

"Sam." I feel a gentle hand tap my shoulder. "Sam, honey." A gentle voice accompanies the touch and I realize it's Aunty.
I open my eyes and look around, disoriented for a second before remembering that I'm in the car, on the way home from visiting Chay in the hospital.
"We're here Sam." Aunty says. I look up to see Aunty and Uncle's house.
"Chay?" I ask.
"Him and uncle are coming." Aunty says. "Let's go inside and freshen up before they come."
Chay doesn't remember buying the penthouse so Aunty and Uncle decided to keep him in the home he remembers.
I nod and get out of the car, still a bit hazy from the nap I just had.
We walk into the house and walk upstairs.
"Why don't you go wash your face." Aunty says, gesturing me to Chay's room.
This is Chay's old room, the one he grew up in, and stayed in until a year and a half ago, when he bought the penthouse. When he got the penthouse, Aunty and Uncle did not let him take anything from his room at their house, saying they wanted a part of him to stay with them.
I walk into the bathroom in his room and turn the sink faucet on. I look at myself in the mirror, the tears resurfacing. Before they could fall, I splash water on my face a few times. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Turning around, I grab a towel and wipe my face with it.
"What are you doing here?" I hear Chay's voice and immediately tense.
"Uh-I-" I stutter as I slowly turn around. "Your mother told me to come and clean in here before you came...sir." I say.
"You've done enough cleaning, get out." Chay says rudely.
I look down to hide the tears in my eyes. Chay, my Chay, this isn't him. I walk out of Chay's room and go downstairs, into the kitchen.
"Sam, dear, what happened?" Aunty asks worriedly when she seems the tears in my eyes.
"Nothing happened aunty I-" I start, but she doesn't let me finish.
"Did Chay do something?" She asks angrily.
"No, no." I say quickly, but it's clear she doesn't believe me.
"Sam, tell me what happened."
"He-he just talked a bit rudely Aunty, that's all, it's nothing." I say.
"Chaithanya!" Aunty shouts.
"Aunty no, leave it-" I beg.
"No he cannot treat you like that Sam."
"What ma?" Chay says, coming into the kitchen.
"What did you say to her?" Aunty asks.
Chay looks at me and sighs with a roll of his eyes.
"She came crying to you?" He says with a slight amusement in his voice. "Afterall she is a maid-"
"Chay!" Uncle yells from the doorway. "Have I not taught you any better? Sam is like family to us. You have to be respectful to her, you understand?"
"Yes dad I got it. I have a lot on my mind that's all." He says with a sigh. "I'm sorry Sam, I shouldn't have spoken like that to you." Chay says to me.
"No, i-it's ok, you don't have to apologize." I reply.
"Ok, go get ready. Sam and I will make dinner." Aunty says.
Chay turns around and walks out of the kitchen without as much as a glance at me. I close my eyes and take a deep breath as the tears make their way down my cheeks.
