There were knocks on Peters door throughout the day. Most were from Tony trying to get the kid out of his room but some were from the other members of the team. Steve came around once, Nat a few times. She knew something was wrong with her baby spider. The last time she came around was to get the kid for dinner. Tony was going to but Natasha could see how anxious the situation was for him. The spy knocked and opened the door, not waiting for a response. She glanced over to the giant bed to see Peters small form.
"Dinners ready Peter. Come eat." The woman slowly made her way over to the child who still hasn't looked at her. She reached out and brushed a few curls out of his face. "Steve made pasta." Peter loved pasta. Key word loved. The mention of the food he used to eat three servings of made his stomach ache both from hunger and anxiety from the thought of eating that much again. He suddenly felt sick again but knew Nat wouldn't leave his room until he was leaving with her. So he got up and followed her down to the dining room where everyone was already seated and waiting. Peter looked over at Tony who seemed to let go of a breath as his kid walked into the room. The others in the room simply began digging in, probably being made to wait by Cap. The young spider took his seat next to his mentor, a plate already set in his spot.
Peter was a few bites into his meal when he began to feel overwhelmingly nauseous. The kid put his fork down and sat back in his chair for a moment. He heard the voices of his teammates begin to fade away before Tony began to snap in front of the kids face, breaking his trance.
"You alright Pete? You look a little pale." Steve spoke with concern in his voice from across the table. Peter looked up to see that everyone was looking at him, waiting for an answer.
"Umm.. uh.. Yeah I'm fine. I think I'm just gonna go back to bed" the young avenger stammered. Peter stood up and instantly felt dizzy, falling back down into his chair. He thought about why this could be affecting him so much and then realized that he hadn't eaten much at all in the past few days. Only the little bit of breakfast he had the day before. Within seconds bruce was by his side and he felt Tony's hand on his shoulder in an effort to steady him. "I'm fine guys really." The words came out quieter than he had hoped. He suddenly felt overwhelmingly hot, his vision began to blur and the next thing anyone knew, the kid was unconscious in his mentor's arms.
Peter woke up to bright lights blinding him. He soon realized he was in the med bay. Looking around the room he saw Tony asleep on a chair next to the bed he was in and Bruce reading at his desk. He started sitting up with a grunt causing the doctor to turn and face him with a startled expression.
"Good you're awake" he said, grabbing a clipboard of his desk. "It looks like you just had a lack of nutrients. Not a big deal just remember to eat ok?" Peter nodded in response even though he knew it wasn't a question. He then looked over at the sleeping figure next to him. "Oh don't worry about him" Bruce assured. "He was pretty worried and I don't think he's slept in a few days so I gave him something to knock him out for a bit. It'll be good for him." Peter hadn't looked away from his mentor. He hated that he caused him and everyone else to worry. Unconsciously, he began scratching his wrist. "You ok kid?" Peter came back to reality and plastered a smile on his face.
"Yeah of course. I'm just really tired. Do you think I could go back to my own bed now." Peter continued to slightly scratch at his arm to calm the thoughts in his brain. He just wanted to go back to sleep, to avoid life for a little while. His inner monologue was interrupted by his teammates' response.
"Sure. After you eat. Steve went to go get a sandwich from that place you like so much. Tony gave him your order. He should be back soon." Peter gave a confused look before checking the time, thinking they had dinner only a few moments ago, to see it was already 9:00. Had he been out for that long? He didn't know you could pass out for that long from something this minor. Peter again nodded and the pair headed up to the kitchen where Peter was questioned with the usual 'how are you feeling' or 'are you hungry'. For some reason no matter what happens in life these are the questions people always ask. Tony asked these questions often in the days following Mays death. Peter smiled, for once genuinely, to himself about how much Tony had tried to be supportive and how bad he was at it. The fact that he tried, and the fact that everyone in the tower was trying was enough for Peter. He didn't want them to worry about him anyway.
Peter took his normal seat next to Natasha but Tony, still sleeping, would not be joining them. The kid looked at the empty seat beside him and frowned. He liked spending time with Tony. It was comforting to have him by his side. His inner thoughts were quieter while his father figure was around.
Steve was back with a bag and a soda before long, placing a sandwich and the drink in front of Peter and pulling small snacks out of the bag for everyone else so that he wasn't eating alone. The first avenger always seemed to know how to be gentle in these situations. The boy took a few bites and put the sandwich right back down. The team gave him concerned and expecting looks as he took a few sips of the way too large drink.
"Can I go to my room now?" He didn't mean for it to sound so harsh and teenagery but it did and he felt bad for it but he really wanted out of this situation.
"Two more bites kid." Steve used his PSA tone but Peter didn't budge.
"Let him go" the scientist said, giving Cap a stern look. Peter immediately made his way to his room ignoring the chattering he heard behind "I think this is a bigger deal then we think. Pushing him might just make it worse." Bruce's comment was the last he was able to hear with his super hearing before he closed the door to his bedroom.
